Samsung LS34E790C - Curved 34" 21:9 super-wide

Friend just picked one up direct from Samsung for £679, way too good of a price to turn down :eek::eek:

Out of stock now so presume a lot of people jumped on it !
Well if nothing else that gives an idea what the price of these will be some months from now. But by then we may be seeing faster panels on sale, or at least very close to being so. That's the only thing holding me back from buying this... at 120hz it would be just perfect. The barrier for VA high refresh rates isn't as great as IPS either, and even that's on the verge of being cracked... so I don't doubt by the end of this year we'll have some very fast curved panels on the market. :)

I never have 120hz+ always use 60hz for me enough :) very happy and I like curve display

Of course, it's personal preference. Some people are happy at 60Hz. I was, until I spent some time with a faster panel. Now I notice the difference, and when the faster curved panels are just around the corner, I know it will be worth the wait.

@Legend - I agree, hence the 8/10 I gave it...

-1 for it's 60Hz max refresh rate
-1 for my wonky monitor stand

Having said that though, most of us have been gaming at 60Hz for years now, and good luck driving a 3440x1440 panel (nearly 5 million pixels) at 120FPS and above!

@~Global - thanks for the profile... will give it a shot soon :)

Thought I'd take this photo to show people what effect the curve has on viewing using Excel - most photos of these curved screens are of landscapes etc. I thought this would be useful for people to see actual grid geometry to make up their own minds. Edit: image taken from mobile @ 65cm from panel.

It's still a funny feeling, but I'm slowly getting used to it.

One drawback of VA (and TN panels too) is some subtle banding in dark scenes in games. They can't render as many colours as smoothly as IPS alas. I fired up Elite and it was occasionally there in small little pockets - not enough to be distracting at all however. I've been using IPS for years, but right now I'll take this VA and that tiny drawback over the glow/bleed of the LG based IPS 34's anyday.

No banding still, only played bf4. Will try tonight diablo3 and few more games

So glad that you guys are all buying this now and re-iterating what I said about it being the best of the bunch offered right now. I have ZERO regrets about buying this and returning the two LG IPS panels.

The Samsung is just soooo much better.

Nice!

How is the does motion clarity, blacks, colours in general compare?

for me personally: very deep blacks, white very white, fast panel in games feel everything move quicker colours and text amazing sharp, just small to read :) and curve effect nice when using programs. :cool: 100% happy I am not hard core gamer for me most important image quality.
