Samsung LS34E790C - Curved 34" 21:9 super-wide

Global_Inferno, I'm not a fan of the music :p but I really appreciate your time and effort in putting the video together.

Agreed (though I quite liked the music myself). You have done a great job in putting that review together in such a short time Global so thanks. This monitor looks really good now:
  • No BLB: tick.
  • Minimal ghosting: tick.
...... plus sharp text, deep blacks and great colours.

+1. Thought it was pretty well done. Some of the guys on here must be seasoned pro's when it comes to making video reviews!

What's the coating type on this monitor btw? I assume it's the usual matte anti-glare or a semi-glossy finish?

It's 'semi-glossy'.

Ordered this in the end based on Global Inferno's comments.

I better not have any issues dude or.....

Holy ****, right... Does anyone have anywhere I can hide? I need to disappear for a while! Haha, no I have every confidence that you'll love it. :p

the music is a little too loud for me buddy, couldnt pick up on your commentary at some points in the video, otherwise a great review and insight for those who are on the fence.

Noted, I thought I'd put the levels low enough on the music; obviously not *quite*.

To be honest the music was just there as a bit of background noise; to cover up any splits in the audio & audio pops... it wasn't meant to be at the forefront. Still, I'm sorry you didn't like it, MetroGnome is pretty cool to watch doing his thing, check his YouTube channel out, you may not like the music, but there's a certain amount of respect for how he does it! :)

Thanks, I've never done a review of a monitor before (and it shows!), hadn't realised quite how tricky they were to film. But I'm glad that some people found it useful!

Thanks, and yes the screen has a slightly semi-glossy finish.. It's not a dull matte like some, but not exactly high-gloss either.

Some "extra" presents on the way in a few mins...

Don't put yourself down, I think you did a great job there! It doesn't look like your first monitor video review at all, it's fluent and interesting to watch. :)

In fact, your video made me want to review the darn thing even more. Hurry yourselves up with the sample, Samsung! :D

Thats the thing its the only video review out at the moment displaying in person its pros and cons and im sure you have persuaded a few people who are on the fence that this ultra wide is the pick of the choice and safest bet for a 21:9 monitor out at the moment.
The colour representation seems to be very good to be honest.

Your playing Russian roulette with lg and by the time the dell becomes available a freesync 21:9 will be out :P

I just hope you have persuaded PCM2 too review it so he can really test the ghosting, stuttering, tearing and response time. i initially decided on waiting for a freesync 21:9 to become available after returning my lg 34uc87 but that might be a year off and the lg freesync isnt 1440 >< and this monitor seems to be a safe bet and strong lead runner.

Oh I've always wanted to review it. Just the Samsung don't have any review samples at the moment. Which is really frustrating! :(

I'm seriously inclined now to return for another replacement, if Global has no clouding on his then I might just have gotten another clunker. Do notice that there's flex on the top right part of the housing which is a bit meh.

I guess I'll contact Samsung first before doing anything, but still very annoying :/

That just looks like back-light uniformity... Depending on the camera settings, I can make mine look like that too, but it's not visible.

Can you try taking one with the surroundings well lit? That way the camera won't over-expose it.

Well I wish it was but unfortunately the clouding that is occuring in the top left and top right is very much visible in dark scenes. I'll try and get some better photos later.

First time poster here and just wanted to say that my sammy arrived this morning and its a keeper. Moving from a 27" Dell and perhaps thats why the Samsung didnt seem that big as i pulled it out the box. Build quality feels good, very solid but then at this price it ought to be.

15 minutes later and we're up and running. Dialled down the brightness settings as others have advised and alls good. Very crisp text and no issues that i can see, cloudiness or otherwise. Colours are vibrant, no way they could be described as washed out. My passion is flight simulation and Prepar3d in particular and the super wide view really adds to the immersion. The increase in pixel width from 2560 to 3440 has had no impact on frame rates thankfully and my new 970 seems to cope well with the higher resolution.

Ive only been able to try it out for a couple of hours but i find I'm sitting quite close to the screen. The curve is less apparent than I expected and very subtle in use. I think I'd be bothered if it was a flat screen 34"er as somehow the curve does help to surround you, I am drawn in to the image.

So to summarise I'm very happy with my purchase. Yes its expensive at the moment but lifes short!

Sorry, I should have added that predictably the built in speakers are barely adequate, haven't tried to boost the bass settings but very lacking. Also the stand is solid but there is some horizontal play so the screen is prone to tilt. I thought mine was level but when I checked it was about a cm out. I also don't really like the mini joystick method of accessing the settings menu. The Dell system seems far easier in use. Minor quibbles though, monitors are meant to be looked at, not listened to or fiddled with and on that level this is a class act.
