Samsung LS34E790C - Curved 34" 21:9 super-wide

ive now done away with all the icc profiles and gone old school and set the monitor up the way I always did for a tv, I knocked the colour off and adjusted the brightness and contrast until I thought I had a perfect black and white picture then slowly added colour until I was happy, the picture quality now looks exactly how I like it

Got my replacement today and it does not have any dead pixels, HAPPY CHAPPY!!

One question:

How do you get the USB ports at the back to work?

I plucked in my mouse and it does not work.

I have installed the driver from the disk.

Hmmm, I do not think so! So I need to plug in usb to usb (computer to monitor) for the other three usb ports to work?

Or have I completely lost it?!

Got my monitor today. Really happy so far. My main concern was games not feeling as responsive as I would like but its really good in this regard. Text isn't as sharp as I would have liked and the colours do look washed out initially as everyone has said, but the negatives end there for me. Anyone have an ICC profile? Right now I just set it to Dynamic Contrast.

The only game I tested so far was Dragon Age Inquisition and its pretty insane in 21:9. Installed Flawless Widescreen which removed the black borders during cut-scenes. Super easy and really does work 'flawless'. I found my one GTX 980 can drive this really well. Had to turn multi-sampling off and change ambient occlusion to SSAO but everything else is Ultra and the game runs at a solid 60 FPS.

Can't wait to replay all my games. :D

Get the calibration right and the text will turn sharp. I wouldn't personally use other people's ICC profiles - they all looked awful on my sample.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the Samsung :)

Not sure how to calibrate it myself - don't really know what I'm doing. Can you let me know your settings?

Bright = 53-57
Contrast = 75 or 85
Sharpness = 60
Color Tone = Custom
Red = 52
Green = 42
Blue = 50
Gamma = Mode 2

I seriously doubt those settings will work for you, but you never know.

1. Have you installed the driver on the disk?
2. Spend time getting the RGB and other controls on the monitor as close as possible.
3. Navigate to Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation > Display and run 'Calibrate Colour' and 'Adjust Cleartype'. Follow the instructions :) This'll get you closer to where you want to be. :)

Yeah I wouldn't use anyone's settings. Each monitor can be very different. iv had two of these n they were both very different out of the box.

This improved things considerably. Thanks buddy. Should I mess with response time?

Yeah, there's definitely differences between them. I don't know how you guys can run yours with the brightness at 60. Even 20-30 on mine is bright. 50+ is retina searing!

Leave response time at standard - ghosting starts to appear on the higher settings. This monitor is responsive and has low input lag.. again I've no idea why they put this in.

@silvagti - yes.. there seems to be variance allright. To my eyes, my settings appear to be about 10% lower luminance than Dynamic Brightness: On. I have to add though that the image is stunning the way I've set it up.

@phiil -I'll do a calibration @120cd/m² and see what it's like.

Haven't got it yet. Dpd still has the one I sent back so ocuk arnt able to send me out a new one yet plus I'm in America right now. Hopefully it's sorted by tomorrow and the replacement is there for when I get home on Thursday.

Thank you for the quick reply, still seems to be the best option on the market unless a 3440 freesync model gets announced within the next week :p which would be 8 months away before release anyways
