Samsung LS34E790C - Curved 34" 21:9 super-wide

Thanks for the info old gamer, thinking I'm an old gamer too at 41 :D

BTW does anyone think I should go for the 34" Samsung over the ASUS ROG Swift?

Its really hard to find any decent online video footage of the Samsung with games running on it. Am finding it tough to decide between these monitors.

Another old timer here and have been fussing over the exact some dilemma for a couple of weeks now.

Had enough tonight of reading reasons to and not to go for both.

So I went with my heart.

Sammy being delivered tomorrow :-)

And there was me leaning the other way and about to opt for the ROG Swift.

Do let us know how you like the Sammy, am very interest to know.

I really wanted to see some great video reviews of the Samsung with actual games being played but no such luck and Youtube doesn't have much to offer either...

Will do guys..

Due today, and I have a family free weekend to install it ( along with a second 980 ) and give it a really good run out.

Im coming from a 24" 1080P 144hz BENQ screen so a drop in HZ but a big rise in size and pixels.

Should know by the end of the weekend if it was the right decision ;)

Ok , here are a few videos and pics from my first few hours with the screen.

A massive mess up meant I didnt get it until today, and its highly likely Ill be getting a second tomorrow as 2 got shipped in the end !

They are rough, im not really a youtuber, and no comments on my gaming skills ( I was trying to do about 3 things at once )

Unboxing -

Weird , YouTube embed doesnt seem to be working for me -

And some Iphone vids of various games running......this all pretty much out of the box, brightness turned down a bit , thats all. Havn't had a chance to really tweak any games settings etc.

The wobble in a couple of the vids is due to the phone being strapped to my chair and NOT the screen ;-)

@ groove200

Thanks for all your effort in creating and uploading the videos!

Looks very impressive :-)

How did you find it? Text clarity, colour uniformity, ghosting, colour banding etc did you encounter any of that stuff?

I'm still watching your initial videos, I watched the game play ones first :-)

So what do I think ?

I am blown away by the aspect ratio , the Colours , the panel uniformity ( damage to the right side excluded ) and the contrast this thing produces. Really does elevate games to the next level. I was surprised by how much.

I was worried performance would suffer , but 980 SLI is hitting everything ive thrown at it at a locked 60 so far. I use the Geforce experience to set everything to recomended levels as im not a massive fan of spending more time fannying about with settings than actually playing.

First impressions are excellent , It feels like the correct decision over the ROG for me.

The only thing so far I would criticise it on and the text in windows is a bit soft. Not blurry , and I've been through the cleartype setup , it just isn't pin sharp. Difficult to put my finger on , and impossible to photograph , but my BENQ felt like it was sharper .

However , completely 100% not noticeable in games.

Test clarity I mention above and I did notice that.
Colour uniformity - all looks good to me
Ghosting - havnt seen any at all
Banding - now the only time I have seen this was a quick run out on The Witcher and I was swimming underwater and a dark cave. The murky depths were graduated in bands of different blacks. Now im not sure if this is banding. Im not sure if all monitors do this as I have never been for a dark swim on any other monitor. And im not sure if it's just how the game is. Other than that ive not seen anything untoward yet.

The banding is indeed a negative point against this monitor; but it's most certainly not a dealbreaker by any means. IPS glow/bleed versus this? - I'll take the VA panel any day of the week.

Ok a few more photos

Certainly looks like too much pressure on something when assembled. Other than that the panel is probably the most uniform one ive ever seen.

You can see a bit of the banding here...remember that camera's accentuate these things and doesnt look as bad with the naked eye -

I DO love the screen real estate :-)

Oh and I solved my blurry text problem...I had changed the test size to a bigger size in display settings , as soon as I switched it back to the recommended setting , its pin sharp as I would expect :-)
