Samsung NC10

Scary trying to keep the cover from getting scratched but so far so good!

Last night I fell asleep watching Life in bed and managed to knock the NC10 down the side of the bed - thought some scamp had come in and nicked it for a moment!

Thankfully there are no scratched on it. Also managed to almost let it slip out f my hand whilst having breakfast on the hard floor!!!

Got to say though, I've not had much of a problem with finger marks etc, a quick wipe with the sleeve and it's back to normal. I've decided to hold off spraying the lid because of this now as it's not a major problem as I thought it may end up being :p

Typing on it on your lap is also very nice. the KB being smaller by a bit means I can type faster with less effort which is nice. Wireless reception is also very good, just been putting songs in the car via USB with full Wireless-G reception out in the drive :D

Just got my black NC10

The license sticker says "Home Edition ULCPC". Is this the same as a normal XP Home license?

Ie. if I reinstall, can I use a normal XP home disc?

No, you need to use the XP disk supplied with the machine.

OK, thanks :)

I have an USB external CD drive, so I assume I'd just plug that in, stick the CD in, boot and install?

I'm probably going to stick W7 on it, but just sorting my plan of action if it all goes horribly wrong!

I've literally just bought the machine, so it's got no data on there I need to keep.

Getting mine tomorrow (so excited!) with a phone contract through phones4u.

No idea what colour it will be.

A note on the OS, does XP home support the creation of VPN connections or am I going to have to wipe it and install XP Pro?

I'm also going to dual boot with W7 to try it out I think, or sod it all and go triple boot with Mint 6 !! :D

has anyone else got a really grainy screen, im not impressed by it at all.

it shows as a plug and play monitor in harware properties.

Nope, my screen is a great image.

Have you got the latest video drivers and running at the right res? (Not hard at only 1024x600, but you never know).

im in the process of updating them now, just went to my local store and both the black and blue had similar screens to mine so im guesing thats how its ment to be.

the asus screen looked amazing after looking at the samsung.

can i ask what bios version you have?

apart from the screen its a bril netbook, i had trouble connecting the wireless so i downloaded the driver again, and when you are given the option to just install the driver or both, i clicked both and its on 5 bars signal and im the otherside of the house, and upstairs.

edit, everything is updated and its still bad, especially on white screens, like when you goto google.

sorry got another question, how do you access the boot menu on the nc10, when i disable the hdd i can boot the usb but i cant get a boot menu when the hdd is enabled so i can bot from hdd

thanks

Looks like a special edition due out soon in the US, NC10-11PBK, looks good. Wonder if it will make it over here.

Basically Glossy lid and anti-reflection gloss coating display , slightly larger touch pad and 5900mAH 6 Cell battery.

Can't link it as on a competitor site..

....and already posted in this thread, I fail...

So i've just bought one of these, put the 2gb ram in and I must say its perfect.

Question: Should I turn page file off?

Nope, why do people keep thinking turning it off makes a difference today? especially on a laptop hdd of all things!
