Samsung NC10

Just go for it, you don't buy a netbook for it's spec anyway. It'd not really designed to be used as a primary machine so you can't expect it to run everything. You are going to be paying a premium for the N280 (1.66GHz atom) and the new graphics chipset but it won't really add much performance.

I'm about to buy but can't decide on blue or black

I like the Blue better, someone at Uni has the black one and I don't think it looks as good. Also all of the lights on it are blue such as the power button and indicator lights so they match.

If you compare it to my earlier pics you'll notice I took the stickers off it, it looks so much better:

Battery life on these are supposed to be 5 - 6 hours is that correct?

Was thinking about a Lenovo S10e as I like Lenovo build but battery life on those is a fair bit less....hmmm

Some more Netbook porn:

RAM Slot (There is only one despite CPU-Z detecting 2 slots).

Photo of the keyboard, I have only just realised that the F7 and F8 keys are actually blue. I think it's the camera flash enhancing them as they look the same colour as the other kays under normal lighting.

NC10 compared to a 13.1" white MacBook.

Just opened up my bluetooth mouse, microsoft 5000 notebook mouse, nice size to travel with, not for use all the time with my big hands, but a good improvement over the trackpad for when I am sitting at a desk :)

Just got one of these in white, very nice.

I have searched for this but haven't found a solution, i shared my dvd drive over the network and it works but if i try playing a dvd film it won't let me, this is in vlc if that helps and im not trying to stream just play from the drive, im guessing theres some pathetic restriction in windows that stops this from working, what can i do to make the drive work, i don't want to stream if possible? thanks.

i shared my dvd drive over the network ... im not trying to stream just play from the drive

That statement contradicts itself, if you shared the DVD drive over the network the the data from the drive is being streamed across the network. I don't think the CSS copy protection can be decrypted over a network as the netbook won't see the drive as a 'real' DVD drive, I could be wrong though, haven't tried this in a few years.

Come on im sure you knew what i meant, was a bit of pointless comment really, though just in case you don't understand, i don't want to run vlc on the machine with the dvd drive then have it convert the video and stream it, all i want is access to the drive and have the netbook act as if its a real dvd drive.

I've now also tried playing morrowind, it installed alright but won't run as it's not seeing the drive properly, so how do i sort this as my searches haven't brought up anything useful so far? :(

Even if the game does see the drive correctly, it still won't run. The game isn't working because of the copy protection, it needs a real optical drive to pass the copy protection check.

It is a real optical drive though, just in another pc, i don't see why it should be an issue, no doubt purely an artificial limitation, why do companies feel the need to limit peoples freedoms, i own the game, pc and drives so it should matter not where its located if its all legit, it takes the ****, now i obviously have to go to extra lengths to sort the problem out which shouldn't exist in the first place, they don't realise but its rubbish like this that forces people to do legally questionable stuff!

It's another form of DRM, just on software rather than content. The netbooks will see the shared optical drive as a network location rather than an optical drive, it has to be the real deal for it to pass the copy protection check. Similar issues are encountered when mounting ISO/Disk images on a local computer. I agree with you, recent games such as Spore and GTA4 for the PC have horrendous copy protection, at the end of the day it only harms legitimate owners as both games were still cracked by release so it hasn't done its job.
