I keep swinging between one of these and the dell 5k2k 40”.
My use case is 75% work - programming - so I don’t want a Uber oled, but really want massive screen state, and my concern with the dell is I’d still want another monitor - despite all the pixels..
I am well aware my current gfx card won’t drive either to their full potential for gaming but text clarity is the number one issue for me, how does this one stack up? I don’t really know much about Samsung qled, and of course all the marketing claims amazing text clarity…
sorry for the wall of text
I also bought it mainly for programming and gaming was really an after thought. I will tell you how I am using mine, right now I have the screen partitioned into 4 sections, one if for my pdf, visual studio code, windows power shell, and internet explorer. I feel like any more windows and the text will be too small to read comfortably, a fifth window would make the text more difficult to read and get eye strain. Text quality is sharp and I love it, its a joy for programming and I love it and cold not see myself going back to normal monitor ever again.
You could if you really wanted more space is to buy a 55" Samsung 8k LCD TV, it has drawbacks but purely for real estate space you cant beat that and I was contemplating it at one point but it was just too much screen to sit at close distance. I was also considering that Samsung odyssey Ark and my brother has one but decided it was too much screen and the resolution was too low for me.
I know someone who has two G9 49" ultra wide oled stacked on top of each other and another person who has two of the 57" g9 stacked on top of each other and I may go this route later if I need more space which I do.
There is also LG new 45" ultrawide 21:9 5k that just released and that is quite good but I would rather Samsung 57" to be honest, I need more width than height and the height of the 57" is equivalent to a 32" monitor so that was enough for me, I mean if it was little taller and wider would have been excellent but maybe next revision.
If you buy oled and the pixel pitch is not high enough then it can make text reading very straining because of the pixel layout, this is what happened to me when I tried a 65" oled screen as a monitor, it was to much and was tempted to try 55 and 48" but glad I went with 57 LCD for work, I don't have to worry about burn in and the razor sharp text is so comfortable to read. For about six months I did lots of measurements and saw lots of monitors and TV and finally settled on the 57 and was very happy with it, actually every time I turn it on I still go wow it looks amazing.
gaming is also very good experience, maybe not oled quality but this is not some cheap looking LCD from 10 years ago. The colour are good vibrant and HDR is excellent and gets quite bright. You will unfortunately need something like 4090 or 5090 or 4080, 7900xtx at minimum. I am currently using a 6950xtx as it struggles on new titles but old ones are fine. But I will say ultrawide gaming is such an amazing experience, recently bought "No Rest For The Wicked" and it looks amazing also assassins creed mirage looks fantastic, so does Doom Eternal. It may not be Oled but its still excellent experience. You will also need HDMI 2.1 port on the GPU that only currently AMD 6000 and 7000 series has and the Nvidia 5000 series has, that's if you want 240hz at full resolution.
Hopefully Samsung makes a slightly larger and Oled for next revision but would also be happy with slightly larger and LCD. I think if its going to be bigger and wider then Samsung will use OLED because it has much wider viewing angles compares to LCD, it would allow it to be wider and not go blurry at the edges of the screen just hope they keep the same curve.
