Great review. This was number 1 on my list but now I want to see the AOC reviewed first and that LG 3440x1440 looks awesome. Linus had only great things to say about that one

22nd June is being touted for this Samsung monitor now :eek:

At least there will be choice and not just the Samsung to choose from

Thanks for the video greg as you made my mind up in regards to should I go 4k or not. I'd have to have a bigger monitor than that due to how small the text is on web pages and apps, and having to zoom everything would do my head in, especially with interpolation.

Due to that, I've gone down the gsync route instead.

That's a pity. Im extremely surprised MS, NVIDIA, or AMD haven't gotten some HiDPI functions and settings like Apple does for monitors.

Once I get my 4K one I'll be using 1440p for the desktop, and apps will load into full UHD with the options to scale menus and text well.

Yer James, it is a pain and not sure if W8 has a way of making apps bigger but I am only on the Samsung till I can be bothered to mount my Asus and it all works well. I just have to get close for things like AB.

So after a good few weeks with this monitor, my 2 gripes are the crappy stand and the apps/Text being too small and needing to be enlarged all the time.

Small gripes but worth mentioning.

Yeah its the text thing and some major programs I use being so small due to the res I'd have to be sat right in front of it. I'm in no rush to dive into 4k though so I'm gonna give GSYNC a go with the asus monitor and perhaps go to 4k in 2015 when some better gpu's are released, as my 3gb VRAM 780 ti's might limit me in a few games at that res anyway.

I would say its better to look at a size 28" 4K monitor as a gaming monitor and use a duel set up with a smaller screen for desk top use.

You can run desktop at 1080/1440 if you wanted, so no probs there. I just like the extra real estate and use it a fair chunk with a couple of browsers open as well as excel on the go.

You might have covered this already, but how is the scaling on this display? I note you say that you can run at 1080p/1440p. Is text still reasonably readable at lower than native res?

Please could you post a photo of the monitor, perhaps with a web browser running at 1080p and 1440p?

No probs and enjoyed doing it and as requested, I have taken 3 screen shot of 3840x2160 - 2560x1440 - 1920x1080. Text is clear on all of them and I still use 3840x2160 for desktop. I opened excel, a webpage, Steam and ran AB to show the scale of things.

All photo's are resized to 1080P for ease

Do you happen to know if Netflix 4k content is currently available via a PC connected to a 4k monitor?

A quick Google doesn't seem to turn up any solid answers, most of the results are about 4k TVs and how the 2014 models have the HEVC H.265 codec support for the Netflix app to unlock the content.

asus have always been like that with their products, seen some of their GPU's £100 higher than competitors

true but normally with gfx cards they can at least try and claim better components, with the monitor its the same panel. Not to mention it actually has less connectivity than the AOC.

I suspect its due to the pricing on the Asus PB278Q they would have to drop that by £50 to £100 if they were to match the competition prices at £499.00 for the Asus PB287Q 4K. I can not see them selling many at £600.00 4K monitors for now is a very small market the cost of GPU`s will keep it that way for some time.
