SAMSUNG

Most businesses/schools use Dell from what I've seen.

Yeah. I worked for an LEA. Almost entirely Dell, just like a lot of Public Sector places. That or HP.

At the risk of getting into a work relatred discussion whilst on holiday! Ok, so what product group are you talking about here? Also which regions of the world do you primarily work?

I would say as a Television engineer, within the last 5 years they have upped their game.

Are they the best in this particular field? They are up there, but I still think Panasonic are better build quality wise, and are more reliable.

LG have upped their game too this generation , where as Sony and Toshiba have gone down.

The joint venture Toshiba have had with Vestel has not done their reputation any good at all.

Some of Samsung's high end LED stuff now is gorgeous. I think I'll treat myself to one next year...

Quite, consumer opinion is often a long way behind the curve. We still have people saying Sony are a premium brand! Its also quite well known that Panansonic are not exactly flying high right now. The first thing to go is quality when you are cutting back!

I suspect if you have the same discussion in 3-5 years time talking about PCB level quality, panasonic may well be going the way of Sony.

UK. I'm not sure if Samsung sells barebones computers but that's what I'm mainly referring to. Stuff like projectors also.

So, lets break that down. Samsung does not sell barebones (or any non note-book) PCs in UK. We do desktops in Korea and some other locations in Asia i believe though!

Projectors, we bailed out of that market a few years ago, no real profit in it. Projectors are also inferior to professional quality LFD (large format displays) in almost all ways. The current trend is to pull out costly and troublesome projectors and replace with high end LFDs. Although we expect some businesses will sweat these assets for a few years and swap them out them on a break and replace to get a decent ROI.

Funny you should say that, Panasonic have some models out this generation that are made by Mstar, so I think some belts have been tightened.

This was also the demise of Philips TV's...

LG make most panels for TV don't they?

Samsung appeal to girls for a lot of stuff. Their TVs are ok but their phones are aimed at girls and they will never beat apple at that.

Pioneer proved that quality comes at a cost, and ended up wrapping up the Kuro range of plasma despite epic reviews and unrivalled quality.

How long can Samsung create top-end products? Who knows, but nothing has touched the Kuro picture quality IMO, and as we're still in economic **** street, I can't see anyone trying to create £4000 TVs again anytime soon*

*this was at a time when comparable mid range TVs were £1500-2000

I have a Samsung fridge freezer. It is by far the best fridge freezer I have ever owned. My Samsung laptop and Galaxy S2 (soon to be a Note 2 or S3) are pretty damn awesome. Currently I have an LG plasma, 42", which is very nice but when I'm in the market for something new I know which brand will be getting the most pre-purchase examination

I for one welcome our new South Korean overlords
