SAMSUNG

My new Samsung TV blows my old tv out of the water, My old TV was a generic brand 32"1080i LCD that I had in my bedroom at my parents, When I moved out I bought a new Samsung 42" TV and it is better than the old TV in every way possible, It's pretty crazy how different an image can look on 2 different screens

+1 On this, i also have a 24" Samsung Computer monitor that i bought in 2007 and it's still gives a goergous picture.

Their phones are also second to none. But anyone who's not an apple fanboi knows that already.

Yes i remember before 2005 that Samsung were a budget brand like ALBA or Goodmans with rubbish portable TV's and DVD players from Argos. But they've come a long long way since those days

I agree about the phones! My partner and my son both have a cheapy samsung ch@t and its not that bad at all! Quite impressed tbh. Im no apple fanboy, cannot understand why somebody would pay £600+ on something like that? A good £200+ android phone can do much the same and if you wanted to, just stick an apple picture on the back of the case lol. Seems like that is all your paying for anyway... the brand, the image of wealth that kinda thing lol. My son wants an apple phone and its all down to peer pressure nothing else.

Also reminds me of Goodmans when I was a kid in the 1980's. I remember their stuff was a pile of turd! But my mum remembered them as being high-end when she was young so what the hell happend? Things change eventually I guess and they ended up making some right drivel in the 80's.

I buy Apple products because of iOS' ease of use and friendly features for tradeoff on customisability. Also, Apple CS is amazing! :)

you just need to look at how good and expensive they look to know that they're aimed at the premium market.

Yup I know what you're saying but perceived quality is a completely different thing to some!

Someone who's always bought an iPhone/iPad or a high end Pioneer TV or something like that won't consider a Samsung device to be premium because it doesn't have that same physical fit and finish to it.

I'd put it into the "affordable premium" group because that's exactly what it is in most cases!

Definitely. I know the GS3 has an amazing built quality and uses some of he best stuff... but the plastic makes it feel cheap :/

You don't want to say that in the mobile forum though because you'll get the "but what if you drop both, which one will dent/crack!!" treatment :D

Actually I'm guilty of that myself a couple of times in the past.

The shame...:(

You certainly get a great bang for your buck with many Samsung products, however is this due to them cutting corners and using cheap components inside????
Lots of evidence, reports and repairs I've made personally would suggest they have certainly been guilty of this in the past!
I certainly wouldn't buy a Samsung TV that doesn't come with a 5 year warranty tbh!

IIRC an android biased reviewer drop tested them and the iPhone actually came off better :p

Supposedly they are getting better also had the local TV repair guy tell me that when fixing our old samsung plasma that was made from crap parts. Our fridge was crap as well had two items fixed under recall warranty and twice more out of warranty. Still like the brand just hope that the new stuffs parts and quality is higher than the stuff of a few years back.

I really like Samsung too, they make great products, for me though:

TV - Panasonic, their plasma TV's are superb! Although those new Samsung LED TV's do look lovely!

Hard drives - Samsung are the best, however, iirc their service for the UK is terrible (remember reading that people had to wait for 4+ months in order to get their drive replaced/repaired [in fact I think there is a huge thread about it here] so that is an instant no no for me thus western digital is my choice for mechanical as they have a turn around of like a few days and I went for the crucial M4 instead of the 830 for the same reason as well as the crucial being way more popular (at the time) and regarded as the better SSD overall

Monitors - Dell ultra sharp win! Love their ips panels (made by lg) and their stands are great.

Mobiles - now Samsung would win me over in a heartbeat if they just had their windows phone design team, design their android phones too (or just come up with a complete new design and loose the hard home button! :p) as IMO the android phones aren't that nice looking, the note II is nice but the GS 3 is butt ugly IMO. Also wish they would loose the glossy plastic and use a nice aluminium chassis or have a similar finish as the plastic on the one X in order to give the mobile a more premium feel/look overall, HTC and apple are much better in the build/perceived quality area. The GS 2 at the time was nice but my god when you look and hold it today, it does feel and look very cheap IMO. I like touchwiz for the feature set and Samsung are much better these days for support/updates, however, the colour scheme/apps are awful looking, the colour scheme looks like some kid has designed it and the apps are just too disorganised and the entire phone UI/apps don't have a unified feel throughout like sense and stock android.

Their SAMOLED screens are amazing!

Have 2 Samsung LED TV's, monitor and Laser printer. Would I consider them a premium brand? No way! They are well built products however and make some superb display panels. I still rate Sony as well... Always loved their products and still do.

I have a Sony TV but that is over 5 years old now. If I were buying one today it would be Samsung. I alsohave a Samsung phone and my next phone will probably be a Samsung. I used to love Sony products but it does seem that the South Koreans are starting to overtake the Japanese.

When I worked in retail for a big camera seller Samsung were pushing so so hard to get into the market in a big way. Their pricing was insanely competitive and they always sent reps out with tablets and the like. Their efforts above compacts are poor in comparison with Sony's for example, mind.

The things I consider premium from them are their high end tvs, high end phones, cameras, monitors, harddrives, laptops, tablets and appliances.

I don't think much of their budget tvs and phones though, I think other brands have better bang for buck in those areas.

I love them for SAMOLED the most!

A lot of their success was due to Apple investing a large amount of money in their fabrication plants with the end goal of obviously getting supplies for their own products. Both companies win massively and will continue to do so for a long while.

I remember when Sammy made medicore TV panels at first and gradually improved on their designs constantly reinvesting money into R&D. That paid off greatly. I just wish the sods would move away from their trademark piano black plastic TV sets. That said, we have 5 Sammy TV's in our house and the longest one has lasted well over 7yrs now. I will always buy them.

Personally, I felt sick going from my iPhone4 to a GS3. Whilst the hardware is fine the plastic gives the wrong impression right away. My iPhone still looks as prestine as the day I bought it and I never used screen protectors on it.

They are going down the right road though and I expect big things from them in future.
