These look amazing!

Simple to overclock! I would be happy with anything over 4Ghz....

Question is however, would a SB based system increase the performance of my 5870?

Going on what you currently have I doubt it would be anything that noticeable.

These cpu's are far from simple to oc.
As stated in oc3d articles they got difficult power management settings.
2500k looks like a gem though.

Just seen this one too beat me to it. One of the most indepth reviews I've seen so far... excellent. OP should add to list. I like the look of the 2500K ...very tempting.

all looks good, depending on the prices i'll be going for a i7 K series. not into overclocking anyway but these CPUs seem solid and future proof anyway.

If you're not into overclocking don't buy the K...no point. Not that they look difficult to clock tbh.

If you're not into overclocking don't buy the K...no point. Not that they look difficult to clock tbh.

It is probably worth the extra even if it is just for the better cooler (probably better resell value as well)

Depends on the price difference, but that's a good point - all indications show there won't be a lot in it.

I think if they allow pre-ordering you will have to pre-order to get one on monday.

I seen some benchmarks where the 2600k performs similar or better however I believe the 980X is still the better performer in many tasks.

Looking at the prices I would choose the 2600k every time.

If you take money out of the equation then no it is not. But if you consider the price differences the 2600k is a no brainer.
