I wouldn't be so sanguine about those numbers. 15% failure rate over 3 years doesn't actually tell us much: all those failures could occur in the first six months and it'd still be true. Statistically if the problem is limited to a small percentage of P/H67 chips that are weak, or if it occurs only on systems with more than X number of drives connected, then all the affected systems could fail quickly and Intel's reassuring sounding numbers would still be valid. So what they expect is in 3years a failiure rate of 5 - 15%. Not as bad as it looks really.
Hi there
There is a *possible* issue with the motherboard chipset.
CPU's are un-affected!
The issue effects sata ports 2-5 on the SATA 3G. 6G and SATA 3G ports 0,1 are fine.
However this came from Intel just hours ago, when we have concrete information to give out as is there a recall and what the process is we shall make an announcement on the forum, as it stands right now there may not even be a recall, as we have not witnessed any such problem in our own builds and long term testing stations.
I shall be the first to get this information and the moment I have it I shall pass it straight onto the forums and make official announcement and inform all departments within OcUK.
Expect a further update within 48hrs, or the moment I get it from Intel/Motherboard vendors as to exactly what is wrong and what the action plan is if one is required.
So if a recall does happen and I send off my UD7 from gigabyte will I get back a new UD7 with a new chip set?
So if a recall does happen and I send off my UD7 from gigabyte will I get back a new UD7 with a new chip set?
If the recall does take place, what will be the situation with customers looking to buy the affected motherboards? Will they be issued a verbal disclaimer regarding the recall or will all stock be off the market and returned back from retailer to supplier?
That's a PR-mans arse-covering if ever I saw one!"In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives," the Intel statement read.
If i were OcUK i would stop selling any of the Sandybridge mobos etc until they had clear advice etc.
