*****SANDYBRIDGE MOTHERBOARD CHIPSET ISSUE*****

Have you read any of the posts above? I suggest you read the posts myself and Gibbo have posted to educate yourself alittle on the situation.

FWIW Nath,

Gigabyte have said to stop selling, neither yours or gibbos posts state to the contrary - if gigabyte say stop selling then I'm wondering why they are still on sale. If they have to come back to yourselves I'll take a trip up the line to return it to yourselves.

Do you use all sata ports on your board ? I do so need a board that works without thinking it might go wrong one day and as for cpu im keeping for when all is sorted.
Then why not hold onto it and get the official exchange? after all you will be given a board with equal or better spec and the pricing on the new revision boards could be higher.

oh & yes I do, i'm definitely a data horder

So, let me get this straight.

If I buy a new Sandybridge mobo, and then my computer explodes, my house burns down, my wife leaves me and my parrot escapes, Intel will ONLY compensate me for the mobo?

Seems like a fair deal.

The house is insured, and I never liked that lazy, repetitive, squawking bird.

I'll miss the parrot though.

I'm just sick of repeating myself really.

Basically we are taking the stance that customers can make the decision themselves and we have proved enough warning on the descriptions. Also they can RMA if anything does goe wrong, so either way, no love lost.

The majority of our customers are well educated in computer hardware so we don't see this as a massive issue.

Hey NaithWrath, Gibbo... Maybe a locked sticky that you update would be a good idea everything seems to be getting lost in this thread with the sheer ammount of posts involved (leave this for general disscussion post news to a locked thread so it can be found easy by everyone). I dont have sandybridge so it doesnt affect me but i still like to read stuff about it and its very hard roaming through all the arguing posts to actualy find information.

Perhaps the answer is an FAQ in a locked, stickied thread listing all the answers to the questions you're repeating yourself on.

I can't say the (understandable) stress of such questions being reflected in your posts here is really aiding the situation.

Just my two cents.

I was a little worried but looked at my mobo spec and realized that I had 4x 6Gb/s SATA connectors not the 2 I thought.

Just a quick question that may have been answered but this thread makes me die a little inside with the hysteria, Does the degredation of the 3 Gb/s SATA ports only occur whilst they are in use ? (so if I wanted to use them in a few years they would only degrade from that moment onwards)

While in use yes. Well thats what people seem to be saying :) IF you just use the 6GB/s intill this is sorted you will not have a problem.

can we not bring back our boards now for a refund or credit as im taking my board out tonight as i need all ports working now not in 2 months time ?

But your ports are working now? I mean two days ago before this announcement came out I presume all your SATA ports were working fine? And I guess they are still working now. You are worrying about something that is probably not going to affect you at all. I have an SB system and I am using all SATA ports and everything is working fine.

Since you can RMA at anytime, why don't you wait until something goes wrong first? Or at least wait until replacements boards are ready.

Like some of the OCuk staff have said already, people are making mountains out of molehills with this issue.

Quick question,

Can I unplug a RAID0 set up which I think is on port 2 & 3 atm and swap into port 0 & 1 with no issues to the RAID array on the disk. In other words only the BIOS boot order to change?

Thanks in advance.

plus there is a better than 95% chance that the issue will not arise before the replacement stock is ready.

Since most components you buy will have a 1-3% estimated failure rate anyway that's not much worse than buying a board with "no known issues"

Yes that will be fine, the Intel ICH controls all 6 ports for raid. the boot order will not change as the bios will just see the raid array as it did before.

Everyone needs to calm down a touch, especially with the comments towards ocuk,

They have said they will replace the once the issue is fixed

That 5% figure comes from all motherboards no matter what the situation.

If 80% of motherboards don't use ports 2-5 the risk for those that do suddenly becomes 25%.
/made up stats about how many use 2-5 aren't accurate, but you get the idea.
