Gibbo has stated that OcUK would do the full RMA if need be. Even i read that!! They are not shirking their responsibilities guys. How many other suppliers would be available for questions with answers in the evenings? I applaud OcUK as said before.

Looks like it will be simpler / faster, if the manufacturer does the replacement.
 
I expect that most end users (us) will have an answer about what will happen by the end of February, and motherboard manufacturers will try and minimise or completely negate cost to us.

I've got a brand new P67 board on it's way to me now because of an unrelated issue, a few hours putting back together again is no problem, it lets me experiment with different TIM and compare ;)

I do have to say it seems because we actually try harder and give customer more options we infact get moaned at more.

Read my earlier post in this thread, I feel I've now answered all possible questions and as such more updates on actual plans will be after Chinese New Year, so in a couple of weeks and the recall will happen March/April.

I'm now going for a curry. :D
 
The manufacturers have acknowledged the problem. The boards we all have currently are under warranty so they will be replaced when it is possible to do so. I think we can just all get on with using the boards, or getting a refund (though I don't really see what this achieves) until the manufacturers/OCUK are in a position to take the next step.

We will release details about this procedure before the end of February. If you would like to be contacted via email as soon as more information on this service is available, please send a blank email to [email protected]

The exact arrangements for the exchange are still being investigated but you can contact us on the support line or support email address given if you have any specific enquiries.

again, we don't see this issue as anything to start a panic over and we are confident that Intel will resolve it soon so that we can arrange replacements and keep our MSI Sandy Bridge users happy.

You can but then you have no computer or are forced to buy an older technology as the fault does not prevent you from using your computer.

So you could get a refund now for a motherboard and have a CPU you can't use or you could carry on using the mainboard and get it swapped out when the recall is done.
If I was to take advantage of this obviously I would be doing the return after I had purchased and installed a new and fixed motherboard.

Obviously some ifs, for example demand will be high so the costs may be increased, plus the first bunch of B3s available may well be for replacements so you might have to wait longer to get a fully functioning system. You wouldn't expect the refund to be exactly prompt if OCUK's RMA processes grind to halt due to lots of other people doing this as well.

The advantage is a guarantee that your downtime would be as long as it takes to swap in the new motherboard, and potentially being able to grab a z version.

The RMA process, with OcUK at least, should be fast and smooth. OcUK sell a very large amount of stuff, so I don't see why it would be complicated for them to have people receiving Sandybridge motherboards, checking them, and then agreeing the release of the replacement. I don't even think OcUK would need to electrically test the boards - I'm guessing there - as they would with normal RMAs.

As well as that, if you're going to wait until April for when the swaptime hits, then I don't see any reason not to wait an extra week or two for the initial glut to pass.

Have a look what happened when Gibbo got the really good prices on the 480s etc. OcUK seemed to have no problems shipping the extra stuff out.
 
on the contrary, i'd expect a specially arranged exchange service to be faster than a normal resellers RMA service for the simple fact that the reseller has to deal with a much wider range of products and has no way to filter out board exchanges from faulty graphics cards or DSR returns.

By the way I notice that Newegg video puts a reasonable amount of effort into emphasising that there is a risk of data loss if you use the affected ports, especially if you regularly put them under heavy load.

Glad at least one company out there is prepared to protect it's customers.

So any of us can return our B2 motherboard for a full refund with no problems ?

I've skimmed the thread, but am I correct in saying that the board manufacturers will release a corrected motherboard during April/May?

yep,you correct,i just bought SB parts today also for 1400£,have no wories,in April/May just going swap mobo,see no reason not buy while have money,especialy when i sold old system

Completely 100% agree. This has been my sentiment all along.

Personally I'm hoping we end up with X58's :)
 
Got a bit of a shock with all this ************!
That video a couple of posts back cleared it up for me.
I don't think there is anything to panic about, just swap to the 6gbps ports for the time been. Quite simple really.
I will definetly swap when new boards are available though, if only for future re-sale!!
 
Still buying

I've just ordered my motherboard too. With only the 4 intel ports iffy, that leaves 4 others (2 intel + 2 marvell). I don't want to wait until April to buy as they'll be like gold dust and i also think it will soon be hard to buy these boards at a reasonable price due to many companies stopping sales.

Swapping a motherboard in a few months is worth it - i'm upgrading from an Athlon 64!
