SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

Over the weeks I have seen a lot of criticism of AMD and Overclockers about the 480. Some of this is justified, but I would like those making the criticism to let us know their areas of expertise in running international electronics companies or large retail businesses.

Absolutely zero; however, what I do have experience in is buying products from a range of different companies (electronics companies too!). The communication around delays on the Nitro + pre-orders has been appalling and pales in comparison to other large companies. How can "international electronics companies or large retail businesses" be in a position where they don't know when they will be shipping/receiving products until the day before they are due to be shipped. It comes across as either unprofessional or dishonest. I am not sure which.

Someone saying that using an iGPU must really mean it. Is your RX480 on the way?

Yep ,I have two on their way ,one from here and second one from a different place.Yes I know ,I am fool but I wanted to have a play with CF and since I have zero interest buying anything Nvidia anymore ,for me this was the way to go until next year.To my surprise intel530 does playable frame rates on older games even at 1440p ,Been playing Hitman absolution and Dishonored for a last week .I did not expect to have to wait quite this long for my cards ,but its not the end of the world :D

Yep,that's the funny part.Should most people do a little bit research that would be obvious .Never ever cut corners on PSU ,some learn it the hard way :)
The problem is that the average Joes wouldn't know better, and can only read the big number in watts for the PSU but pay not attention to the max output over the 12v rail.

That is very true ,but everyone is an "average Joe" at some point until they choose to educate themselves ,that's what I meant by doing some research (or find a tech forum and ask ,plenty of helpful people around ) :D

Even with my first PC build, back around 97-98, I knew to get a good quality PSU. CWT, I think my first PSU was. It's been Antec and Seasonic ever since.

I was really looking forward to this card, but seeing that I need it sent to Finland, it's an unpredictable wait. I cancelled to order the 1070. Yes a big difference in price but I've anyways been and. Time to switch sides.

It's fun to switch. I usually go alternate. Keeps novelty factors higher

Antec, like Corsair, don't make PSUs. There's even a good chance your Antec is made by Seasonic tho, as my current Antec 650W is. I used to buy Seasonic's own-brand PSUs before they became super, super expensive.

You can still get a Seasonic 430W for around £40 now which is not too bad IMHO.

I cancelled my order for the 480 on Monday, paid overclockers the additional £40 & got a OC'ed 1060. It runs quitter and cooler than the 480 & uses less leckie. Its not as 'future proof' as some like to say, but I'm buying it to use it today, not next year.

I did exactly the same. I got a Gigabyte 1060, super cool and quiet, very happy with it. By the time the Vulkan and DX12 became relevant I will have moved on to my next card anyway.

I was looking at the gigabyte 1060 but it uses sleeve bearing on the fans and the one fan I had a problem with was sleeve. It's a great looking card though in other aspects.

Will switch to msi 1060 this week if nothing happens.

I used this list when finding my PSU found it very helpful, and I know it will have no problem when my 480 arrives (if it arrives)

Before I had a Hyper 880 Watt PSU, which I was told I was lucky to have had it as long as I did (8 years and was still working when I threw it away)
