SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

Gregster from these forums said the 480 was faster even than a 1080 when it came to video editing / encoding (in Sony Vegas).

If your main use for the card is video editing, the 480 may well have been a better bet.

@ 9th_Attempt

Why don't you dump to Desktop and get a far more efficient XBox One? use Cloud Services to do your Video Editing/Encoding.

Would have done a better job,but I was looking at the timer,as I didn't want to consume as much power. Got to look at those CPU cycles - you don't get them for free.

Looking at my signature he must hate me :D

I have more RAM than i need, and my worst crime; my hardware is overclocked to the moon.

He must hate me even more - I switched to SFF systems primarily a decade ago. I don't even overclock and my last two cards have been Nvidia too(since they were cheaper at the time I bought them. The GTX960 increasingly seems like a false economy now though). After the GTX960 experience which I had got a R9 380 now.

Had nothing but Shuttle systems,mini-ITX ones, even done picoPSU based builds, ammo box ones, etc.

Like I said we had similar issues from Rollo and co around the Fermi times,so I expect its more of the same.

If you're concerned about power usage of a 480 just buy the Powercolor Red Devil and run it in silent mode once it's in stock.

Under gaming load it uses 1W more than a Reference 1060. In Overclock Mode it uses 32W more than the MSI Gaming 1060.

It'll also slap around even the GTX 1080 if you use it for video encoding while using less power in Silent mode, and being much quieter and cheaper.

Oh,didn't see that. Interesting.

Yes, so I will move house to wherever you are, uproot my family just to save £50 a year to power my GPU. That sounds like sensible advice to give on a GPU forum, doesn't it!

I'm not suggesting that (not that you'd need to in order to get better utilities rates).

I was trying to be helpful by highlighting good rates one can get for utilities. Not trying to score any points or anything.

My mates have solar panels in their new place - they generate enough power to keep a lot of the appliances running during the daytime LOL.

Think they spend like £10 to £15 a month currently with two desktops and a server running running.

Oh thanks for that constructive reply. I will take your advice and now change my life so it fits in with what you say, oh wise one. Oh no wait, your doing NVidia good here, constantly highlighting their power efficiency over AMD's power hungry cards.

So thats you saving the planet out the window then?

Don't lecture us.

86 Watt CPU now pulling about 150 and a socking great water cooler to keep it in check, 145 Watt GPU now pulling about 220.... nice, just how it should be! :D

I wonder how much power his PC has pulled from him argueing with us on this forum - he should switch it off and save billions of pounds.

I hope he used a tablet or his phone - two watts argueing on the interwebs is much better than 30W to 60W!!

Given other 480s are in stock, is the sapphire one so good it's worth the wait? MSI 8GB version is £10 cheaper and in stock according to the website for example - is the performance difference going to be that great?
