SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

This is going to be my next graphics card as an upgrade for my ancient 7800 series card. Just need to get delivery on a day when the wife is out :-)

It's the nice thing about hardware upgrades is that she just sees a black case. Same case for 3 years, in which time there has been at least one complete upgrade :-)

Just curious. Can anyone estimate how much of an upgrade on my ancient GTX460ti 1GB this card would get me on games like overwatch (currently most played and sucks to play at 50% resolution and not even at 1080p capped at 30 frames). My current card has had me locked out of fun games like Fallout, Skyrim and Witcher as well. I don't need to run them at max settings to be happy but roughly how much would the 480 nitro destroy my old 460ti?

Edit : Sorry should probably have said this is a short term upgrade while I build my new rig which already has a post in the PC building section. My current rig will fit this fine having done some research and the 1060 so need to decide between the two. Roughly £250-300 to spend on a new card while I purchase my new PC parts. Currently have an i5 running at 3.2, decent PSU (800W+) and 6GB or trashy DDR3 RAM.

Yes,it would - it destroys cards like the R9 380 and GTX960 too.

Sorry another quick question which I'm not sure if it can be answered or not here. Hows the pre order stock looking? If I did opt for AMD which i'm definitely leaning towards as Freesync monitors are generally much cheaper and I have a 1 year old so I wont have loads to spend sadly in the future.

Is the initial batch sold out yet? I get paid on the 15th and will be putting a pre order down on a 480 nitro or a 1060 depending on price differences. (I know waiting for benchmarks would be better but honestly I don't need to run stuff on ultra I just want improved performance on my 460ti so whatever is better financially while I slowly build my new rig for Christmas).

TLDR: Are the nitros initial 2000 stock sold out? or will I be in for one of those if I pre order on Friday :)?

Dont think the stocks sold out yet, Gibbo posted pre-sales numbers the other day and i had not breach 1000 then

I've never really been one for pre-ordering but I really can't make up my mind between the Nitro and Devil. I need some clock speed numbers, and details on how well cooled and quiet the cards are.

I'm just worried me waiting means I might miss out on stock when they do appear :(

I'd imagine you'd do fine with either the Sapphire or the Powercolour.

Not one for pre-ordering myself but in this case I wanted to get in there in case the price creeps up, as witnessed with plenty of other things in the past two weeks.

Can't see there being masses of difference between the two cards but I might be wrong.

We should get some details tomorrow.

I pre-ordered for the first time in a long time for the same reason, in case prices go up significantly, stupid pound.

However the more I look at pictures the more I wonder about the heatsink. It's very hard to judge size/shape of the heatsinks on the cards with the shroud on and somehow these companies think hiding the heatsink which has the biggest effect on how good the card is.

The Nitro looks to me like the heatsink itself is narrow, it looks to me like the top and bottom edges of the fan don't have heatsink fins below them. Devil looks significantly longer and with heatsink width matching the fan width.

I'm wondering if the Devil has effectively far higher heatsink surface area, XFX and Asus heatsinks also look more substantial. Though maybe the Sapphire has enough cooling that more is just a waste and maybe it also has a pcb that enables higher overclocks.... who knows. If the pound wasn't so unstable I wouldn't have pre-ordered, seen what average overclocks are, if any custom card is obviously better or if one is much quieter than another.

Bear in mind the silver version was a prototype as stated by SapphireEd, but I do think it's more or less close or the same as what we'll be getting.

I just pre-ordered the Devil. Never used a PC card before, but hopefully it's as good as reviews of Previous Devil cards are.

I just hope the 3 smaller fans aren't too noisy when it card is overclocked, or rendering at max load for hours.

^^^ I also don't like the smaller fans. I much prefer the bigger, slower fans. However, that is certainly looking like a lot of surface area on the Red Devil, so maybe it will be OK. Smaller twin fans? No thanks.

Still really need to know about the PCB's, although the majority I'm sure is going to be down to the silicon lottery.

Would really like to see some pre-orders on the American sites, but I can't find any! OcUK has you guys spoiled.

Also.. if a card comes with a clock of 1400, I would say that was a good investment. Normally AMD cards come with really lame overclocks, say 20mhz, and they call it Super OC. If they do a decent clock out the box, to me, that is a damn good thing. The caveat is that it is able to maintain that clock, and not be power control limited/throttled.
