Bear in mind the silver version was a prototype as stated by SapphireEd, but I do think it's more or less close or the same as what we'll be getting.

CHeers, definitely looks quite a bit narrower than it could be, also means that even though it has a bigger fan a lot of the outside edge of that fan isn't blowing air over the heatsink at all. With large deadzones under the middle of each fan, having a narrow heatsink really reduces the amount of airflow actually passing over the fins.

Thing is it's a lower power card compared to a 290/980ti, at a certain point more heatsink surface area really doesn't bring you much difference in temps even overclocked/overvolted. Though my first impression is the Sapphire card will struggle to run as low temps or as quietly with higher voltage.

On the other hand, the Devil card looks huge and honestly might just be excessively long for what is a midrange card. Looking to sell second hand will that many people want that big of a card in the sub £200 price range?

According to one of the Sapphire guys they said the silver card is a very early prototype of the card,so it might not be representative of the final version.

I believe the Silver one is actually going to be the Toxic edition, Nitro first with a rumored 1350mhz clock and Toxic after with a rumored 1375mhz clock
 
Its silly to me that the product is available for sale yet the spec of it is not available. This whole couple of months for the launches of both nvidia and amd cards has been horrible from a consumer point of view and frankly if i never have to watch a launch with interest again that would suit me just fine.

If nvidia or amd or any partner manufacturers are reading this - stop dicking about and release the god damn products.

I think there has been problems binning the number of chips required and working out across those binned chips what are the highest/most reliable clocks within a given fan/voltage profile.

I think this is why the final clocks have been held back right until the last minute for lots of cards in this gen.

If you release the clock spec and its too high (i.e. Strix OC) you are either faced with not being able to ship enough cards or you need to re-flash/recall. Either way you lose money.
 
Manufacturing issues like that should surely be solved prior to release. You design something, you test it, you sell it. If youre getting bad yields from your manufacturing process you are not ready for mass production surely. You make it sound like someone is making these in their garage. These are billion dollar companies and should have a handle on this.

Not that i like to defend companies.. but they are all using a new process and are desperate to sell to recoup their investment. As far as they're concerned it's a case of get the product out the door ASAP as consumers are desperate for a real upgrade after 3 years of rebrands.

And, judging by pre-order numbers, they are not wrong.

I can't speak as i'm one of those. It's the first piece of hardware i've preordered (not counting a couple of things on kickstarter, which i've been lucky about and both have delivered).

My rationale is that i don't like my R9 380 (it's too loud at load) and i'm keen to lock in the price. As far as i'm concerned i'm happy to pay the return postage to OCUK if they turn out to be turkeys.

You do get that we know about 99% of what we need to about them. The actual shipping clocks aren't too important. If the Nitro comes with 1300Mhz or 1350Mhz, or 1342Mhz, I'm still going to overclock it regardless. The core is the core, the 8GB is the 8GB, nothing really changes in that sense. We know the specs of the Polaris 10 core, we know the specs of the memory, we can see roughly the size/design of the card, the final clocks are almost the least important piece of information. Custom card with huge heatsink will bring drastically lower temps and likely improved overclocking, how much is a fair question. But I still want one of these cards over the reference one, even if it doesn't clock at all better, which is unlikely, I buy this or buy a reference and buy a custom cooler for it. This will definitely have an 8 pin connector and have a higher potential TDP which will allow it to potentially clock higher or even just downclock less under load.

How much is the cheapest decent third party cooler you can stick on the reference card, are any available yet with appropriate mounting holes, what about vrm cooling heatsinks that fit perfectly? So for £30 more than reference you get a custom card with a custom fitted larger heatsink and no voiding of warranty to fit it. That is why I'm buying and why most are, if it does in fact overclock 10-20% better than reference.... then you're getting a bonus in value.
