SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

That's just stupidest discussion I seen... Who the hell chose pc parts on power cost... I would understand if you are using 1000 pc like that... And i don't believe in ecological aspects as making that card makes much bigger footprint than saving electricity.

So my suggestion is: sell pc and eat grass.

Lot of people are concerned about power consumption yet a lot of them turn off every CPU power saving feature and OC the hell of it right after they install it into their brand new PC.

It is easier to save electricity by increasing AirConditioner's temperature by 1 °C...

Better to set up an offset OC and leave the power saving features enabled.

This is hilarious. Are we the old power consumption argument again from people who are trying to get us to not buy an rx 480?
Damn should I turn most of my lights off in the house in case I have to pay £10 extra a year?

Overclockers forum where we have people buying a 970/980 replacement for £400-£700 yet we have people worried about an extra £15 cost per year in electricity.

AMD hasn't got the right balance between performance, temperature and power consumption. That's not to say they will not with future cards, but at the moment they're not there yet.

Nvidia is not perfect either, they have their own work to do in relation to DX12 performance. That's all.

If you're using W10, click on the icon (start) & scroll until you see the large letter C & click on Calculator. Type:

50 (average watts consumed more than the 1060 at load) x 365.25 (days in the year) x 7.14 (No of hours at peak) = 130 (Kwh)

Then:

10 (Average watts consumed more than 1060 when in use idling) x365.25 x 16.86 (hours if the day remaining) = 61 Kwh

130 + 61 = 191 Kwh @ British Gas standard tariff 30.01p per Kwh = £57.49 a year! That's what running a 480 will cost more than a 1060 based on my average usage for work, it will cost more the moment I play any games!

Also, because energy is purchased in $, not £, the price of electricity will increase over the next few months too, as the £ has already fallen by more than 10%. Sometimes being an AMD fanboy can't be that good, can it?

You forgot to subtract that pile of money you saved on a Freesync vs a Gsync monitor ;)

Wasnt that long ago people were buying 800w 1000w 1200w and even higher PSU because that was cool and a sign of your system spec manliness.
Now its an issue to have a whole PC utilise over 300W and oh my maybe even 400W.

Id rather have better DX12 and Vulkan performance from a card than low power consumption and I bet so would Nvidia owners as well. :)

I like low power usage and great all round performance, 1060 delivers.

Yeah I was considering the 1060 also. Great little card but I'm just worried about dx12/vulcan performance on it. It just seems like it struggles. If they sort that out I think it would be a decent card and a tad better than the 480s then.

Your telling me to use the calculator and then go on to confirm my numbers correct? Good Grief lol..... :D

And you're paying 30p per Kw Hour?

The average UK Kw Hour price is 15p, that's why I used 15p, if your paying 30 you need to look at switching suppliers as you're getting ripped off.

Running a 480 at maximum load for 50 hours a week comes to about 45p more than the 1060.

50w x20 = 1Kw = 15p, that's 20 hours for 15p, at 50 hours per week its 20 hours x2.5 = 50 Hours = x2.5 15p = 45p.

He is just trying to derail this thread and paint the 1060 in a better light, just wait 12/18 months when 480 pulls away from 1060 even more in the new api just like most of Amd cards have done against Nvidia cards in the past.

The highest end is where Amd need to do better even then in dx12 they are getting better.

This card looks awesome. Just curious about one little thing: why is there a square hole on the backplate? *I think* this is behind the GPU?

Any word about those 30 cards? Are they shipped to customers?

From what i know rest of cards will be send on 29th or after weekend (fu*k this bankholiday :P) is that correct?

If it covered that it would make contact with the back end of GPU capacitors, and solder points which would short it out. Nearly every backplate that's there for cooling is similar.
