SAPPHIRE RX 480 NITRO NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT OVERCLOCKERS UK (WORLD FIRST) !!!

Here is a problem, you have exclusive on the 1st AIB card but as yet we do not even know the potential performance advantage this brings even though we understand it will be cooler and does look better. Indeed 50Hz is not worth much but can it manage 1500, that is the question people are really wanting to know.

Many are obviously cautiously waiting more info both on this and the 1060. If reviews of the 1060 could drop on the 7th however (you know this better than others) so surely more information and review on this the first AIB is essential that it comes out soon also.

I see no rush to pre-order not knowing really what I am getting performance wise or indeed how it compares to their competition.

a lot of these will sell purely because they are a Sapphire custom 480, regardless of the actual specs, the 480 is a decent 1080p card, and this will be the refined version, so on that alone it will sell.

I am interested to see reviews also, i have had Sapphire Cards for the last 10years and they have never failed to deliver.

I want to see how the fastest AIB Custom 480 is, i have a feeling Powercolor might take this crown this time round.

Pre ordered one

I have been considering a new GPU to replace my r9 270x for a while.

Decided on a few then talked my self out of buying, If I kept listening to people saying wait for this wait for that I would never get one.

So took the plunge with this, my saphire 270x has server me well. Hopefully this will follow suit.

@SiDeards73 I have no doubt a lot will sell and yes I have owned and been pleased with Sapphire in the past too. That however does not reflect the current situation that Nvidia are throwing a spoiler with the 1060 and its possible we could know the specs or even have reviews of it before we see one for this card.

So I ask Sapphire/Gibbo make it happen.
If one card is 10% or so within the other it very much could come down to aesthetics, brand preference and cooling but at least then consumers have the information to make the choice.

"AIB partners are reporting to me this morning that with extremely good custom air coolers the 480 GPUs are seeing from 1480MHz to 1600MHz clocks, but tell me it is a "lottery draw" on GPUs."

First, the hype train came, but I did waver, nor falter and waited patiently...

Then, the benchmarks came, but I did waver, nor falter and waited patiently...

Then, the partners teased, but I did waver, nor falter and waited patiently...

Then, the 1060 was leaked, but I did waver, nor falter and waited patiently...

But then, Gibbo let me pre-order this Nitro AND NOW I'M GOING OUT OF MY MIND AND CANNOT WAIT ANYMORE IT'S UNBEARABLE!!!

Wonder where the point of diminishing returns are though with this card? it might clock high, but its probably going to be held back by Rops and stuff at higher resolutions....

As ive said it will be and is a great 1080p card.

Likewise easy to assume reviewers often get cherry picked cards so it is wise to allow some variation for general retail. Although 1480-1600 is quite a bit different so means little to the potential average.

If the card is approx 2 weeks away from retail.
Then we can be certain some people already have one in their hands now or will very soon for doing bench-marking/reviews.

The stock cooled cards at there standard clocks seem to hold an average clock of around 1160 from a review i seen. If the Nitro can hold 1350 constant then that's already a nice boost. I think these cards will already be somewhere close to the gtx980 in performance.

So you reckon these might actually be worth upgrading for? Waiting for a Vega if it launches before BF1, hopefully there will be some deal with it included in the sale.

From a decent 290 i would still say it's a hard sale. I would be waiting on Vega if thinking about an upgrade. I like my upgrades to feel like an upgrade and an extra 20-30% won't really do that for me. For those on the tier below i think these will be a really nice upgrade.

Im in the same boat however, if i could get 10fps more in the titles i play @1440p, plus better dx12 performance going forward, access to the YouWattMan tool, and lower power draw from my current 290 Tri-X i think i would bite as a makeshift til Vega appeared.

Pretty much the boat I'm in.
As my R9 290 is already gone I just want to get the absolute best bang for buck, especially as we may not see Vega until next year.

I have a 120FPS screen, so anything extra over that 60FPS is a bonus!
Only thing holding me back from ordering is seeing what PCS+/Devil monstrosity Powercolor put out, and at what cost (and reviews).

I think Powercolor are generally one of the cheaper AMD partners, pretty sure Gibbo confirmed that as well. It should be a decent cooler on it.

That's why I'm waiting, to see what clocks it arrives with and the cooler potentially. The PCS+ cooler is up there with the Tri-X one, once they are preorderable, clocks are set and reviews are out, I can evaluate which model has best performance to cost.

I think the rumor of 1500-1600 was coming from a Powercolor card as well, will be interesting to see if any other AIBs make cards, So far we have confirmed Asus, MSI, Powercolor and Sapphire, also a pic of a rumored XFX card with changeable fans as well. Wonder if Gigabyte, HIS etc will bother as well, they both are offering the reference so who knows.

Can we per-order then cancel if we dislike the clock speeds?

I'm hoping for 1350 with decent overclock potential.

I'm coming from a GTX960 2GB so going to any 480 will be like night and day for me, but I'd love that little bit extra without heading into GTX980 territory.
