For all the rule changes, unfortunately we just have exactly the same thing as last season, except Leclerc and Ferrari have replaced Hamilton and Mercedes.

Looks very much like we will have Charles and Max leaving the pack behind.

I think if I was wanting a rear gunner I'd pick Sainz over Checo. Probably not much in it but I think he'll be in third this season more than Perez is.

I agree. Sainz is a very good choice for a driver to accompany Leclerc.

Seeing a car slowing to a crawl on pit lane entry when they could have just pulled over by a marshall post / gap in the fencing is worrying.

Drivers are supposed to try and recover to the pits if they can and when it works it's obviously preferable to stopping on track. It was unfortunate that both Alonso and Ric stopped in a similar way, but I don't think either of them could have known they would grind to a halt there rather than being able to make it into the pits.

Merc done for the 3 years I reckon, fail on Toto's end to vote for an engine freeze, regardless of how much of the 1.2 sec deficit is down to that they never making that time up. Especially as is also budget cap now.

Since the 2nd year of their dominance era they were gradually losing their best guys over time. Think they lost too many now.

Agreed.
Sainz is great. I wish he was better as he seems a lovely guy.

But just seems to be missing the very last bit to be WDC.

Great team ferrari have got.

Can't remember last time I was so excited for a season.
Nothing against merc and Hamilton but I'm glad they've slid down a bit.

Sainz is really an opposite version of Max. Max's dad was utter pants yet Carlos Sainz is up there as one if the greatest Rally drivers ever whereas his son just isn't of the same level.

You know most sports don’t have ALL teams really in contention for the title at all times right? :p It’s way too early to tell but the possibility of 3-6 drivers regularly winning races is pretty damn competitive.

I for one am feeling a bit disillusioned. If Merc and McLaren can’t get it together we’ve gone from 3 Brits having a great shot at the title - to two idiots from RB and a couple of Ferrari drivers I don’t really care about. Charles would be my pick but I’m not sure I need to stay in all weekend to watch every bit of coverage like I did last year. :(

OK, I've had a think about this and the magic of f1 has gone for me. Its too contrived, the new cars are too big.
Not sure how it will come back, it just doesn't seem the same with these new cars.

Believe it or not they seem a bit noddy to me. Hopefully there'll be some indycar on soon. Maybe formula e.

Actually I'll be honest AD 21 has ruined it for me, the magic has gone, I shall still watch but it will never be the same.
What will those idiots at sky go on about in Melbourne? oh I can see it already, make a massive song and dance about the last few laps in S A.

Something needs to make the elephant in the room go away, but it won't.

Anyway rant over. For now.

I mean...they are, but the overall width has been the same for a few years now...and the length of them is pretty close to recent seasons (if anything a few of the cars might be shorter overall than their predecessors, or at least better-proportioned).

Is the problem for you really the size of the cars, or is it Hamilton not being at the front yet?

Both if im honest, they just don't have that something special.
Hamilton being at the front might help, but it's still all a bit noddy and won't change AD 21.

Even the wheels just look wrong to me, at least indy have a spec. car, no pretence.

Fair enough. Best thing for you to do then is stop watching, unsubscribe from these threads, and get on with your life. Maybe in a year or two you can check in on the Formula and see if it's worth your time. Nothing worse than following something because you used to like it.

Enjoy the things you enjoy; don't waste your time on things you used to enjoy.

No I follow all motorsport I can find, I will still follow f1 I just won't give it the same status.

Since I've had sky q I've found I actually quite like football so I get my money's worth.

Actually f1tvpro is very good value if you can get it, but I enjoy sky sports, I'm just expressing an opinion. I may change my opinion, no one has to agree with me, in fact if someone can show me that I'm wrong that would be helpful.

The commentary constantly going on about how great the new regs are as soon as there is some sort of DRS battle going on is getting old very fast.

"OMG GUYS LOOK AT HOW AWESOME F1 IS!!!111 LOOK AT HOW WE HAVE THE SAME DRS BATTLES FOR A FEW LAPS THAT WE HVE HAD QUITE OFTEN OVER THE LAST FEW SEASONS!!!111"

They need to shut up.

Yes I think the commentary themes need to mature, the number of times they went on about last year was mad. Hamilton got pole, but no mention of his lap, Verstappen though every 5 minutes even though he crashed.
F1tv did similar but to a lesser extent.

Just to add the way they imply the drivers have some sort of god like ability for trying to brake before a line on the track.
They need to watch a recording of Senna at Donington or Hamilton at Silverstone in the wet.

Also Senna at Monaco different level.

Edited to add, even Mansell at Silverstone on more than one occasion, f1 has become all 'do the analysis, get the best out of the package' all the real heroics have gone now, in fact last season at SA and Brazil were near that level, but the bleeding race director and fizzy drink team dragged it all down to a petty level as usual.

I suppose Verstappen could have been a hero, but like Piquet he's just a spoilt nasty little bratt. DRS was to easy.

There's a few live streams of race commentary on YouTube. I've not watched any of them to see if they are any good but you might find it more interesting if you're not getting on well with the tv commentators.

It is pretty cringeworthy watching them try and make DRS overtakes exciting.

I think DRS is rubbish and needs to be scrapped.

Rubbish? when we had no drs everyone was complaining there were no overtakes and the races were boring. At least the drs stirs it up a bit.

DRS is a bad solution to the problem. Instead of making cars that are able to overtake we have a drastically artificial solution that makes the overwhelming majority of overtakes uninteresting. What's worse because it "solves" the problem, there has been far less interest in finding an actual solution.
