Saxxxo VTR

So not worth it then?

Is it worth getting one Private or from a dealer?

Dealer = more expensive, but chance of comeback if something goes wrong

private = cheaper generally, probably just as well (or badly) looked after, but will be easier to tell if it has been abused if being sold privately.

Personally on a car of that price, I wouldn't have a preference, just make sure its FSH, and in decent condition.

Depends on the car mate.

If you find a good one at a dealer, then great. But the warranties you get with cars this age/price won't really be worth the paper they're written on (i.e. they pretty much don't cover anything you'd want covering), so don't write off all private sales for the peace of mind of going to a dealer - because there isn't any!

On the other hand, if you find a nice example for sale privately, then even better. You can chat to the seller, find out how he cared for it. Ask if anything has gone wrong. Perhaps get him to take you for a spin in it, and you can see if he drives it hard with a cold engine, or anything like that.

Personally, with cars this price/age, I'd prefer to go private.

Well I've found one I like so I've just gotta contact the owner to see if it's still for sale.

I'm disappointed that there are not many icelandic greys about in my price range :(

I just know the minute I drive a silver one home an icelandic grey one will come up on the Auto Trader.

Anyway.........i'm sure a silver VTR will keep me more than entertained.

As the car is quite a few mile away, about 50, I have two options.........

Leave a deposit and come back down, to go back up, to come back down which seems a waste of fuel or go up and bring it back.

If I go up and buy it, how do I bring it back down legally? Insurance etc.

Get the reg number, get a quote online, then save the quote number, if you buy it ring up the insurance company quote the number and set up the policy.

I already have a saved quote with quinn, so buy the car and sort the insurance out there and then.

Does it not matter that the V5 isn't in my name?

Should be ok, otherwise no one would be able to drive their new car until the v5 turned up, which as we know does not happen.

Just check with Quinn that you are insured from the when payment is took and not the next day or something. :)

Is top speed achieveable? 120mph I think.

Not that i'll go over 70mph ;)

Well on my speedo on my private road i have seen 127mph, and i know someone who has seen nearly 140mph on the clock, however these will be 10-15% out, so 115mph and 122mph ish.

Whats the Saxo like when it's fully loaded with people?

Sluggish? Not that i'm gonna be racing about in it, especially with people on board. I notice the difference in the Mini, especially when A/C is on too.

You do notice when there are more than two people (driver included) in the car.

Doesn't affect top-speed really, however 0-60 times suffer a little. Its still not particularly slugish, just nowhere near as responsive.

How does it handle with a few people in the car?

Still good?

It's I have been invited on a trip to Wales, 3 tents, and 3 people in the car including moi. I just wondered how it will perform in the valleys :D
