Hmm what do I change first.......ICE or Breaks. ;)

What ICE you got in your saxo btw?

Just a panasonic mp3 player, uprated pioneer front door 3 ways and a panasonic 12" sub with a 400w amp. :)

Brakes wise i have mintex 1144's all round with Brembo max front discs, and brembo replacment rear discs.

Do you rate that ICE kit?

It's just I don't want to hear the thump thump of the sub and none of the lyrics. Does your sub rattle the plastic around inside your saxo or have your turned it down......

Tbh i dont have it that loud, and as i dont listen to dance music i dont get massive bass, but yeah the sub is tuned so it does not drown out the other speakers, there is not point adding 6x9's or changing the rear speakers, just add a sub.

Well I've gone and done it.:D

I went down to see an 02 plate silver VTR. It's got 40k miles on the clock, FSH (dealer),excellent condition,11 months MOT and 6 months tax + aftermarket ICE and alarm.

It drove really well and the guy seemed pretty decent tbh so I got it. He said he'd also throw in the old HU which I'll probs sell on ebay.

I pick it up on Wednesday (private sale), left £50 deposit which he gave me a receipt for so i just gotta get the thing insured.

£3250.

I'm certainly getting the brakes sorted, they are horid:D

So i'm nearly part of the VTR club......... ;)

Nice sounds like a good deal.

You won't notice a massive difference in braking performance with any discs and pads. For £160 iirc you can get a 206 gti brake setup with reconditioned calipers machined to fit a saxo and painted, brand new pads and grooved discs on saxo sports club for sale forum. These will be the best brakes you will fit under the standard 14" wheels for a reasonable price and anyone who owns a set of spanners could fit them. If you want better braking feel you might want to invest in a 306 gti master cylinder.

But none of that will fix the real issue, the master cylinder is on the wrong side of the bulkhead, the link between pedal and cylinder gives a super sloppy feeling to the brakes, i used to hate them on mine worst bit of the car (Build quality aside)

Maybe but that can't really be helped so might as well do everything else possible to help improve performance/feel.

I will certainly change them at some point as it just doesn't feel right:).

Is it classed as a modification on insurance? How about the ICE kit...........

I noticed the engine fluctuating at idle.......warm and cold, is this normal??? The rev counter would fluctuate from 800rpm/900rmp.

Didn't notice anything driving it.

my car idles between about 900 and 1100 depending on the temperature, usually higher when its hot

not sure about the saxo but the 206's brakes are super sloppy too, they work fine just you have to stamp on them (i imagine they're fairly similar to the saxo)

Its all to do with keeping things as cheap to make as possible :(

meh, the LHD to RHD conversions on french cars are the cheapest ive seen

wipers? nah lets just keep them the same
bonnet popper? nah the passenger can do it
brakes? nah lets just rig up some cheapo linkage that makes em all spongy

:p

edit - does anyone know if the same gearbox is used on all pug/citroen 1.6 8valvers?

Also same reason aircon was never avaliable for RHD saxos because they couldn't be bothered to make a different design to suit.

Gearbox will be the same design as its the same TU engine. Ratios differ from model to model though.

TU engine? tell me more

i dont have a VTR but my engine is identical iirc so would like to know about them

digitalwolf - the only thing useful they put in on the 206 when swapping sides was a footrest for ya left foot :p

Why, did you take him for a ride

Oh believe me, he took me for a proper ride ;) :p :o

Very impressed with the Saxo's handling! Very quick car through the bends. Just a shame it has such a bad image :(
