Scared of moving up

Don't worry, things are seldom as bad as you think they are going to be. I used to feel this way when the new academic year was looming up, and invariably it was all right, more than all right on most occasions actually.

I remember my friend explaining the Scottish differences. Ok in england 1-6 primary.

The numbers continue for 5 more years.
secondary

7 first year
8 2nd year
9 3rd year
10 preparing for gcse's
11 Gcse A levels.

Then college then uni.

That makes no sense at all.

Well for my school it was. Y9, a gcse or so, Y10, about half of total GCSE's, Y11, the rest of them.

Honestly, Year 8 for me was the EASIEST YEAR IN MY LIFE! No SATS, no nothing, just relax, you are ready for it. Be confident. You can't run when things get tougher, because that's life. You think you're not ready, but really, you are :)

TO CLARIFY FOR EVERYONE!!!

It differs for all schools. I'd say the majority do modular GCSE's so kids basically can't **** up horribly if they do badly on one exam. However this = a lot more exams so you tend to start with a maths gcse in year 9 as there were 3 modules for me. If you're smart you can take some AS level courses in year 11 and sometimes even in year 10. Mainly though, AS levels start at year 12, and A at 13. You do these at a 6th form college. Which sometimes, some schools have these so you just carry on as it were another standard school year.

Year 8?!? That was like... 13 years ago for me :o
From what I remember, going from Year 7 to Year 8 was not much different. Things only really started to change from Year 9 (or was it Year 10??) when you have to choose your GCSE subjects.

Anyway, best get to sleep or my wrinkles and eyebags will show.... You won't have to worry about that at your age  :p

Oh right, I didn't realize it differs for all schools. Another thing I've never understood is different exam boards with different papers. Doesn't that just lead to inaccuracies between grades? It seems madness to me.
Another thing which adds to the confusion is this college thing. College in Scotland is for HNC and HND. We do everything up to Advanced Highers (which as mentioned are a higher level than your A-Levels) in school (though there are a couple of schools that don't offer advanced Highers, but it is the exception rather than the norm.
I think I was right initially, but there are exceptions to the system that creates confusion.
The kid was totally wrong.

Yeah just blag it along, dont do anything silly, learn when to keep your head down and you will be alright.

Enjoy it though, you will look back fondly at school years for many reasons.

Well I'm going to year 8 in like 7 days and I just feel a bit nervous about moving up. It's a bit like will anything change, will things get harder. Will I be ready for it all.

You want my advise? OK.

You know all those BS subjects they make you do, like RE, PE, PSHE, Music, D&T, Drama etc.... Make the most of them. Those subjects are not meant for learning, they're meant for fun ;). Drugs, movies, wrestling, flinging dictionaries around, bunking; god I miss those days. Every day used to be a weekend. :)

To be honest. dont give a **** for year 7-9. And work your ass off for GCSE's and Alevels or w/e else you want to do.

But ofcourse if you want to be a chavy scumbag then by all means smoke and drink to your hearts content.

And 19 in a Week..... OLDDDD
