Scariest Monster / Thing in a game?

I remember playing Doom 2 as a kid, the level where he first makes an appearance in the game. He got out of his room somehow and was wondering around in the middle, where it was quite dark except for a few flickering lights. I opened the door, could heard the loud footsteps, saw him and swiftly exited the game :o The whole game was very creepy, for a kid anyway :p

The best have more or less all been mentioned.

I did find pretty much everything that freaking moved in the Orphanage level in Painkiller: Battle Out of Hell to be less than savoury.

  • demon children
  • beheaded demon children
  • demon children on fire
  • demon children running around with pillow cases over their heads
  • Pinnochio dolls that stab you with their noses

Eesh. Even the beach ball bouncing down the stairs was creepy.

Skeletons in Daggerfall

Realms of the haunting, this game scared the £$(££$( out of me especially the screaming ghosts

How about Thief 3, The cradle with those undead like creatures.

The Vortex Queen in Ecco the Dolphin. Thrust into a large black void with a huge alien skull floating there...I was about 7 years old, nuff said

T-002 from Resi 2, most often you couldn't see him but the moment you enter a room with him in you can hear the footsteps

Nemesis from Resi 3, purely for the speed element...you can't run away from it lol

As mentioned before, the "right-hand man" monster you need to freeze in Resi 4. Another speedy chasing type monster

Nothing in Resi 5 really...

Any of the murderers in Clock Tower 3...doesnt' help you play a small girl who has no weapons and panics even when they miss you with an attack, making it even harder to get away....v. atmospheric game

Cyberdemon from Doom 2

Alien Queen on the 3 boss levels in Alien Trilogy on PS1. Not scary in AvP as you can see em miles away. In AT the draw distance was about a metre...so it's like facehugger egg..egg...eggQUEENARGHH!!!!

Guess it would be SS2, pretty much the whole game :p Expecting Amnesia to overtake that when I find the time (i.e. the courage :o).

It's been a long time since I've played it so I can't dig out anything particular from my mind.

But Phatasmagoria always scared the bejeezes out of me, but that may have been because I was only 9 when I played it! :p

Clearly this must be the dogs that jump through the window in resident evil 1 the first 'oh ****' moment I think anyone over the age of 25 had, in games :)

The first ememy I was scared of as a child was in Ocarina of time, the Floormaster that could fall on your head as you walk around the dungeons.
