Scuffed Bumper worth getting repaired?

@nlel1975 The scratch clearly bothers you. From Indian insurance regulations to Australian repair advice, you won't rest until you've got this sorted.

Just get it booked in with a reputable company that can do it properly and then you can put it behind you.

Because you had no qualms in paying over the odds for a few screws that you couldn't see, but now aren't worried about repairing some damage that you can see?

I certainly don't come to motors to enjoy laughing at others' misfortune (at the end of the day like everyone else I've a huge list of motoring stuff that I'd rather hadn't happened - what comes around goes around and all that), and generally I do provide useful advice, to those who don't actively seek to ignore it.

So your advice is to get a half bumper respray at £178.50 which may or may not match the rest of the bumper and/or car.

No, just yours. You have this unrelenting ability to take something with a 30 second fix and turn it in to a year long drama that should probably be told on Netflix. You ask for advice, ignore it, then find somewhere that'll tell you what you want to hear, whether it be some 2-visitors-a-month Australian website or an INDIAN insurance company.

Why do you even bother? Pay the money, live your life.

Christ I wish I had time to spend months pondering such pathetic problems.


EDIT: Also, email the Indian and Australian companies and ask their advice.

You said you got a quote of £175 for a SMART repair.

That's what I would do - it's exactly what a SMART repair is for, they do these kind of small jobs day in day out, and will 99% be able to make it invisible or as close as.


To summarise the other options that you've been considered:
- £180 Half a bumper resprayed.
No because the majority of body shops will not respray half a bumper.
- £127 New bumper
No because at that prices it's unlikely to be painted, and even if it was then it likely won't match due to paint aging
- Claiming on your Insurance
No because nobody in the right mind would make a claim for minor damage, due to excess and then affect on future premiums

To summarise the options that others have suggested that you've basically ignored:
- SMART Repair
Quote of £175, but apparently you can't find anywhere safe for him to work. Would likely be the best outcome vs cost
- DIY repair - ChipEx Kit, wet sanding, bufffing etc.
Cost would likely be £30-£80 depending on what products etc you need to purchase v what you already have e.g. polish etc. Would likely improve the appearance, but unlikely to be a full repair unless you have experience. Low cost
- Proper Bodyshop repair
Likely £250+. Downsides being time taken and cost.
- Do Nothing
Cheapest option. Could be done immediately. Could get on with your and everyone else's life immediately. Worst option appearance wise though

But what does it matter how someone else categorises the damage?

Your car has damage to the bumper.

Whether you call it cosmetic, minor, major, then does it really matter?

I have pretty much decided to do this, especially after reading that Australian repair advice which points out that a plastic bumper can’t rust or get any worse long term. It comes down to whether you can stand the damage or not which I can. That goes against your argument that I fixed an under tray that I can’t see but won’t fix this which I can see.

I probably would go for the SMART repair option if I had somewhere for him to work, which I don’t.
 
When you do eventually bite the bullet in 2025 make sure you ask the body shop what paint they use and let us know, we couldn't in good faith let you get stiffed like you did with the under tray bolts.

Even getting it seen too by the SMART repair guy for £175 doesn’t equate to good value for money for the damage concerned. It would be like being shafted for £7.50 screws all over again.
