Colleague I think you under-estimate our suppliers! :D

The stock is not arriving shortly, its here, however as per Andrew's original post we shall honor this price until 9AM Friday, personally I think Andrew is bonkers this is way to cheap for a 2TB SATA 6GBPs HDD, so grab them whilst their hot. :)

Well that has got to be one of the fastest deliveries ever!! But as said, price still stands until Friday 9AM so grab them before they jump back up! :D

Awesome deal, its the cheapest 2Tb drive, and its SATA3 as well!

Though... given its a 5900rpm drive, would the SATA3 even come into play? Would a 5900rpm drive be able to transfer enough data to break the 3Gbit/s limit? If so, I'm extremely tempted by this offer :o

Also, out of interest when are you making seperate pages on your site for SATA II and III? Currently all the sataIII drives are listed under II, which doesn't make much sense :p

ooohh a few of these are really tempting for my Unraid server - just dont want to buy and then find they arent compatable :( (plus I cant really afford £130/£190)

Yep SATA 3 pointless for ANY mechanical drive ...

This is not true I am afraid. Burst speeds are limited by the interface. A drive with high burst rates requires the latest interface to function at its maximum speed. This is why SATA 1 ports slow down the faster SATA 2 drives :)

Its either this or the Samsung F4 2TB...any idea how they compare?

Speeds about on par from what I have seen however reads and writes of the smaller files (system files) seem a smidge better on this drive which is why it holds its price premium of £10+ over the samsung. Remember, this is only an Pre-order price that is being held until 9AM Friday. After this the drive will go back up to £79.99 which is still a very good price compared to the rest of the market :)

I am looking to order one of these now, but you say a pre-order price, does this mean they will not be dispatched until after Friday? This is not an issue, I just would like to ensure I know when it might arrive.

They were not supposed to arrive until later this week but just 1 hour after ordering from the supplier they arrived! Excellent service me thinks :D

These drives as such will be dispatched for you for next day delivery (in this case wednesday as it will not get processed until tuesday).

Pre-order price was for the week however stock arrived early and out of good will OcUK has decided to honor the price until 9AM Friday :)

SATA 1 can slow down SATA 2.

Even taking burst speed into consideration (which I was)

My post said "SATA 3" pointless for any mechanical drive and this stands even when taking burst speed into consideration (which I was). If you can point me in the direction of an article that disproves this I would welcome your input.

Remember this.. Even on a large onboard DRAM cache - you are looking at 64mb, even with a 100% efficient forward stacking algorithm in play you are filling the cache by way of reading from a mechanical platter, therefore the "burst" will be very short lived and is unlikely to ever come close to 300mbps as you will not have 100% efficiency.

Random access , spindle speed and platter density are so much more important that whether the drive is SATA 2 or 3.
