Sebastian Vettel

I'd agree with this. Maybe not comfortably, but I don't rate him as high as those mentioned (when they are driving well). I mean Webber almost beat him and I'd only rate Webber as a midfield talent.

I completely agree with this statement, but it really is hard to tell with F1 because the cars are such a big factor.

I think a lot of the overtaking issues are caused by drivers being so risk averse most of the time. It is better to finish 5th than not at all so it seems that few drivers take risks to move up the field, preferring to wait until the perfect opportunity or the next race and hope an opponent has a bad race.

I get to see a different side to him than most and like him loads, he tries to be one of the boys although struggles with our sense of humour when we rip the **** out of him.

Most of the public see him when he is most under pressure and im sure all of us behave differently under those circumstances, no posts from me will convince people that dont like him to change their minds and i wont try to, it's just a different viewpoint thrown into the mix.

Has always stuck me as one of the more approachable drivers in F1 right now. Always seems up for a laugh and a joke if he's around the F1 Forum. I also don't see this arrogant side of him that some in this thread mention - other than the usual level of any racing car driver (they all seem to have a bit and Seb IMO less than most)

My issue was always the way Red Bull handled the press - badly. And as much as I would have liked Mark to win, how well he handled the press.

I guess that's a fair point. From my perspective it was his reaction right after the Webber incident that turned me off him. As somebody who you get to see fleetingly on the TV it will take a long time for him to redeem himself.

fair enough

That idiotic finger pointing really gets to me - by all means be excited about getting pole /winning the race - but FFS quit with the finger!!!:)

How often do you get to see the drivers?

I'm confident he now has a championship we should see him calm down, the erratic mistakes we saw him make this year shouldn't happen in the next season

I'm sure the same was said of Hamilton and look at some of the positions he put himself into this season :p

Vettel
Before the start of 2010, I stated that Vettel is a top line driver and is in the same class as Alonso and Hamilton (who I believe are the top dogs in F1...Alonso with a very slight edge).

After he has won the title, my opinion of his driving ability has dropped slightly. One thing that is clear is that he doesn't have the ability to overtake in quite the same way as Hamilton or Alonso. Vettel needs to start at the front and have clean air to run. The moment he has someone ahead of him, he begins to fall apart.

The problem with the above trait is that when he has a car which isn't by far the best, he will struggle badly and is likely to fall behind even the likes of Webber (who I think is an average driver).

Apart from the problem of not being able to overtake, Vettel is the real deal. His problems will come when he does not have the best car.

The Turkish Incident
A lot of people dislike Vettel, after he crashed into Webber and then made out that it was Webber's fault by making the "mad hand gesture" as he walked back to the pits. I would've probably reacted similarly had I been told on the radio that Webber was not going to fight the overtake and that I should go for "it". I would've fully expected Webber to give me a wide berth and not cut back in to me after the nose of my car went ahead of his.

As far as I'm concerned, the crash was a racing accident, propagated by Webber's radio man not passing on the message for him to allow Vettel through. The other problem which didn't help was Horner repeatedly lying, which in turn put Vettel in a bad light. It was almost as if Webber was being unfairly treated, when in fact, he wasn't. Any No.2 driver can be asked to move aside. This is not unusual and has been happening for many decades. Perhaps some of the newer F1 fans are not aware of this.

The Future
Given that RBR have had one of the best cars for the last 2 years, it wouldn't surprise me if they have the best car in 2011 as well. McLaren and Ferrari really need to up their game.

2011
My pre-season prediction is Alonso for the title, simply because he is the daddy of F1 and this time around, he will be familiar with the inner workings of Ferrari. McLaren will shoot themselves in the foot again, as they refuse to enforce team orders right from the start of the season, allowing Button to take a few points away from Hamilton, in the first half of the season.

If RBR have the best car next year and enforce team orders right from the word go, Vettel will be unstoppable and RBR will win both titles with ease, next year. I'm hoping that, like this year, Webber is not forced to give way to Vettel, as I'd much rather see Hamilton or Alonso win the title and would love Webber to take points away from Vettel.

If 'shooting them selves in the foot' mean they treat there drivers equally then I say fair play to them !

I think I must have been watching a different crash that you. I agree it was a racing incident but it was Vettle who made the more aggressive cross track move.

I actually like Vettle, he seems to have a good attitude to the press and understands that the fans want to hear from the drivers when ever possible.

/McLaren Fan :)

Judging by comments on this forum, I can see a lot of F1 fans feel like you do.

I just want to see a return to the old days when No.1 drivers of 2 different teams would do battle, while the No.2 drivers of those teams would also fight each-other. I loved the 1991 and 1992 seasons where Mansell/Patrese battled with Senna/Berger. It felt like a genuine team effort...almost like Williams were going to war with McLaren and Honda were going to war with Renault.

For people who didn't watch F1 back then, Honda and Renault were both ploughing in huge sums of money into their respective F1 teams. If memory serves me correct, Honda were so determined to claw back the power advantage which Renault had, they brought something like 4 different spec engines to a single GP (I think it was Mexico...can't remember now). This would allow McLaren to test out all the engines to see which gave them the fastest lap times. Renault were supplying Williams with special qualifying engines, to be used only for qualifying. Different spec engines would be used in the races. Elf, who were supplying Williams with their fuel, were creating and supplying special fuel which allowed the Renault engine to develop a few more BHP. Shell, who were supplying McLaren, were also copying Elf and doing their best to provide the most potent fuel they could.

When McLaren and Williams fought in 1991 and 1992, it really felt like they were going to war and all the different protagonists involved were all pulling their weight. Unfortunately, that sort of "war" is probably gone forever.

For the record, the battle in 1991, went to McLaren/Senna. In 1992, it went to Williams/Mansell.

Weren't they the 1500bhp qually engines?

1500bhp is a bit of a stretch. The BMW M12 motor allegedly had 1300bhp in qually trim by 1986, that was regarded as pretty much the most powerful that they ever got IIRC.

The final two years of turbo engines ('87 and '88) saw a lower maximum boost pressure mandated (4.0 bar for '87, 2.5 bar for '88). Had they not started to limit them towards the end of the era, we probably would've seen over 1500bhp in qualifying.
