Security guards - bad experience

This is why nobody believes you, me included.

Nobody in their right mind would be such a wet blanket that after being locked up for 2 hours in a basement, the police arrive and instead of going crazy to press charges against the bouncers for false imprisonment, you just said 'Oh ok officer' and went home? Yea sure. If that's what really happened then you need to grow a pair.
Of course I didn’t just say oh ok officer, I was furious I was in there for two hours.

I kept saying to the police, I want to take this further as this can’t be legal and the officers reply was “there just doing there job” and said they can keep me detained until police arrive if they believe a domestic issue has happened.

I kept saying how can I take this further and they kept saying right a complaint to the bar, only to find out the next day the bar won’t do anything and are saying go to the police, it’s like a dead end

Trust me by no means did I just say “oh ok” that’s when I’m still trying to fight it now as it’s never right but feel like I’m running out of options.

I no some people may not believe me but this is honestly what happened, look at the link I sent on the reviews of the place. There are moaning about the bouncers

Were you arguing with your wife before this happened, or talking in loud or raised voices?

We need more facts.
We were both sat on a shared table in the venue, we were having a great evening, no raised voices, nothing. We are both very happy

The police said it was two other people that raised alarm, which I’m guessing is people at the shared table and for some reason done this, why I have no idea

There's a thread on Mums Net about a woman going to the bar and saying "angela" to the bar staff as she is in an abusive relationship and needed to escape. Initially it was taken seriously and then police were called. However she was eventually released with her partner and now does not know what do to.

the officers reply was “there just doing there job”

If you write to the bar I seriously suggest a spell checker.

surely bouncers/security guards aren't allowed to detain you indefinitely?

even special constable has to have a valid reason to detain you whilst waiting for another officer to arrive...

whole thing is probably a dream anyway...

You mean a PCSO? As far as I'm aware, a Special Constable has exactly the same powers of arrest as a regular officer

In the UK, a bouncer (or door supervisor) cannot detain you in a room or otherwise hold you against your will unless they are making a citizen's arrest for a crime they witnessed, and then only for the purpose of waiting for police to arrive.

so what was the crime?

ahh yes PCSO is what I was originally trying to think off.
They can only detain you for a max of 30mins if they think a offence has been committed.

I guess after 30 mins if no real police have arrived you can just leave.

so how can a bouncer hold someone for hours unless a citizens arrest was made for a crime commited.

Welcome to OcUK?

If what you're saying is true, I would suggest not letting it go. I certainly wouldn't. Contact the SIA and complain and do not let the Police fob you off. There should be a way to complain about their behavior, if you feel they've treated you poorly. Maybe contact citizens advice?

I'm not saying I believe this happened. But if it did, how much time and effort are you willing to put in to achieve 'justice', so to speak?

Thanks for the advice and helpful replies

Can I just ask why u don’t believe this happened, I have no reason to make this up and the fact that people don’t believe it makes me think how crazy it is that this happened and just wish I could take it further

I admit it does sound crazy and I didn’t think this sort of thing could happen just by other people at our table making up rubbish

I did get the officers that come out that night to call me back and there refusing to do anything else about it. I actually said surly this is false impressment or something and he just kept saying how they can hold the public and there just doing there job until we get there

How can I get the police to do anything else about it, do I ask for different officers to look at it and what do u suggest and do u think the press would be interested in this
