Seenheiser pc 360

what's your budget?

Below £30 - get the Xonar DG
Below £80 - get the creative Z
Above £100 - get the asus xonar essence ST or STX

The PC360's don't need a headphone amp. Only the PC-350's do.

the way I see it - you have two choices (bearing in mind you have chosen a very good headset)

A)- Asus D2X - This will give you good quality with the ability to use a surround sound setup later.

B)- Asus Essence STX - This will give you the BEST quality full stop ;) but no surround sound unless using SPDIF

I have a set of Seenheisers , not the same as those though...but they are way louder and clearer using a sound card with a headphone amp...much much better than onboard

Theres going to be an obvious difference comparing onboard sound to a dedicated soundcard but that's not the question here.

The PC350's are 150Ohms (which most soundcards without an amp will struggle to drive) - The PC360's however are only 50Ohms so any soundcard will comfortably drive them.

do you all recommend this? is this a fairly balanced answer?

Sounds fair apart from the under £80 category.

Personally after experiencing Asus sound quality over all the creative cards I've always owned in the past - I'd stick with a D2X for the under £80 category.... creative sux :p

He needs a headphone amp, none of the lower end xonars have one apart from the xonar dg.

And you do realise that the headphone amp in the Creative Z is the same as the one in the Essence ST and STX. So it's going to sound better than the D2.

How many times does one need to repeat themselves????

Whilst I'm no audiophile - I have done my research regarding these two headsets, as I was looking to purchase a set of PC360's before I ended up with some PC-350's (got them at an awesome price so couldn't resist)

EDIT: Hang on - let me be clearer - I'm not talking about onboard sound (its always pants) I'm talking about any other dedicated soundcard (within budget of course) Plus I might be biased against creative after years of crap driver support - Changing to a D2X completely blew me away in terms of sound quality. Moving to an STX was a very similar but more powerful experience thanks to the headphone amp (as my headphones need it)

And how many times does a person have to be told that the Sennheisers do benefit from a headphone amp, especially for bass.

as for sound quality, i think I would actually put money on the Creative Z sounding better than the D2x over headphones and sounding at least as good, if not better while using speakers.

Do you even have a set of sennheiser PC 360's?

So far in this thread the only thing PC360 owners have mentioned so far is that an amplified soundcard sounds better than onboard sound. That I completely agree with.

lol - amplified sound isn't going to give you better bass - its going to give you a louder sound thats all - nothing more nothing less.

Creative Z is nothing better than a rebrand of Creative's 3D soundcards with bells and whistles (look at how quickly they dropped the 3dcon cards lol). Check out the reviews (even on this forum) where the 3Dcon cards are being pee'd on by their older brethrin (X-Fi) cards for quality. I wouldn't touch creative with your pole let alone mine, they seem to get worse as time progresses, forcing users to buy new soundcards due to lack of driver support. Surprised theres windows 8 drivers already available lol

Well, I don't even know where to being with your post.

No, no. what the owners of the Pc360 said is that their headphones sounded better through a headphone amp. The D2X has nothing that would provide extra power over onboard sound.

And I too do a lot of research on headphones. You must have missed the review on headfi where the guy provided measurements showing that PC360 with various headphone amps and showed that the there was no benefit of getting a headphone amp over 150Ohm but that they did show improvement up till then.

I would even argue that most decent headphones would benefit from a headphone amp.

And I see you edited your post. I am still going to reply to it pre edit. Show me anywhere on this forum where I misled anyone. I have recommended both ASus and creative cards depending on the users budget and needs.

Also what does the Recon3D have to do with the creative Z? Everyone knows the recon3d's sound quality was pretty bad. You just have to look at the specs of the card to see that. I don't see your point. The creative Z is a competely different animal, better dac, better build, better ground isolation, better quality components, improved headphone amp, improved core3d processor.

And I think even the overclockers staff have been impressed with this card. Here's a quote from Andrew Moore's post when He first advertised the card on these forums.

"this new sound card is very special"
