Sega announce Megadrive Mini.

Yay! About time really, it's been a money maker for Nintendo certainly.

But all comes crumbling down when it appeared that AtGames are making it... Given their track record on the Sega emulation they've released. I'm not holding out much hope.

My only hope is that it's as easy to modify as the mini NES and SNES.

I assumed that Sega would want to handle this release because of the quality of ATGames' past efforts (which have been generally panned) and the success that Nintendo have had with their classic mini's...if you keep doing the same thing over and over how likely are the results to differ? Until this gets universal praise I steadfastly believe that this will have a multitude of issues, sound chief amongst them. Why Sega? Have ATGames got them locked in somehow?

I was all for this until i saw ATgames. Wont this be like the third ATgames produced mini mega drive?

I can only assume (hope, pray etc) they are working closer with Sega to deliver something as good as Nintendo's offerings.

Would you not be better off with a Raspberry Pi running Retopie? I've got one coming as I've given up on SEGA getting the right company to do it.

yep sega always find a way to screw up something and im saying that as some one who had a master system, gamegear, megadrive, multi-mega and a saturn, sega always do stupid things and screw up lol

Yep, I have no interest as long as ATGames are involved. SEGA seem to be allowing their history to dictate their future and **** things up again.

That being said, I've put a preorder in for an upcoming compilation called 'SEGA Mega drive Classics' to be release on the PS4/XBox etc.

I had something similar in the past for the PS3, this has more games. Probably better than wasting any money on anything to do with ATGames.

Was this thing ever released? I can see an older AT Games console (which I believe is generally considered to be pretty guff) and there does seem to be another one - a "flashback edition" that looks like a meagadrive? Is that the new "meagadrive mini" (if so are there good reviews?)or is it still to be released?

Not yet, may even be a Japan only thing when it does get released.

All the AtGames things are generally pretty bad. Either can't run full speed, or massive input lag or the sound emulation is way off. Or all of the above.

That would be annoying, I'd be quite keen to get one. I had a mega drive as a kid and wasn't really away back then that in owning a PAL version I essentially had a crippled version. Kids next door but one had a snes and I used to like playing Mario kart and street fighter round there, I was almost tempted to get a second hand snes recently but the snes mini coming out gave a better option, an official console with proper snes controllers and NTSC games (obvs there is the whole raspberry pi thing too).

so a new mini mega drive implemented properly would be fun to own, I'd quite like an N64 mini too when that comes out.

I'm looking forward to the inevitable comparison videos of the AT Games Megadrive Mini versus the same game on a SNES Classic hacked to run Megadrive games.
The SNES will probably run them more accurately, no doubt leading to some great old-school console wars in the YouTube comments.

Sounding like they've dropped AtGames *HURRAH!* Also sounds like they've taken a hard look at the Ninteno, NeoGeo, C64 mini consoles and the news from Sony and gone back and are polishing it up a bit. Not a bad thing.
