Does anyone else have very fond memories of the Dreamcast? Or are my memories rose tinted?

I seemed to be the only one that had one in my area and was devastated when someone sold it. Its the only console I've let someone use and devastated.

No memories at all - I got a PS1 in 2001 and a PS2 in 2003 or so!

I've owned one for a few years now though. It is a unique and good console, but without the rose tinted glasses I see can see that the system and games wouldn't have been "my thing" when I was 13 or so. I was into serious but action-y games like GTA 3 - SA, Mafia, Need for Speed; not Sonic, and Crazy Taxi. Grandia and Shenmue would have bored me immensely. Those games still do drag a bit (never completed Shenmue).

I loved the Dreamcast, I bought one second hand when It had been out for 6 months or so. I was really impressed with how clear everything looked (I was used to my N64). Fav games were Soul Calibur 2, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia and Virtua Tennis.

I remember getting Chu Chu Rocket in the post for free too. It was such an awesome console and you definitely don't have rose tinted glasses.

Also what do you mean someone sold your Dreamcast!?

For me it was the best console of that generation (and I owned them all). It felt closer to an arcade than the ps2/N64 and there were so may quirky games. It's a shame Sega never made another console.

I wasn't massively into consoles but as I'd had a meagadrive as a kid I did buy a dreamcast and a few games, didn't use it much, it is still in my old bedroom at my parent's house - I did like the demo of toy commander, might try and get a full copy of that game at some point.

I quite liked the GTA games on the PC and when GTA:SA came out I bought a PS2, purely because of it. For similar reasons I later bought a PS3, I've avoided getting a PS4 so far but might well do so for RDR2, or will just get the new PS5 when it comes out - especially if GTA6 is released around the same time.

Eh? You mean someone stole it and flogged it to someone else? What? Why did you not just demand they buy you a new one?

I’ve owned 4 over the years and it’s it’s nearly as loved as my n64. Been on a bit of a collecting binge for it recently as there’s a wealth of reasonably priced/very entertaining games out there.

Currently have an ambition to have all the non standard controllers for it and to replay the which is best for soul caliber tournament.

Amusingly the last year of gaming has been dominated by the resumption of the almighty chu chu rockert rivalry of 15 years ago between me and a mate who spend more time sabotaging each other than actually going for the mice

I was always one of those people that kept every console / game I ever owned. Ps1 - 4 Segas etc. My brother moved into a flat when I was about 12 and said he could use it until he got his own and sold it for 30 quid. Had about 30 games and all the add ons. I asked for it back and he said he didn't know where it was. Held it against him ever since.

I remember the graphics being mind blowing at the time for me.

My older brother moved into a house and I let him use it until he got a console himself. When I asked for it back it turned out he sold it for 30 quid. It had 40 games etc.

I've never sold any of my consoles or games so that's probably why I miss it so much.

Why didn't you just get him to buy you a new one or get him to reimburse you the amount you spent on it?

Oh well you can buy them for £40 quid all day long... But expect to pay £120-150 for a GDEmu or USB-GDROM mod drive and £150 for DCHMI mod chip if you really get into it :D Not to mention £20 to replace the godforsaken fan it has.

Had mine since launch, luckily had another friend who had one too for a while so didn't have to hide it away. Bought a second hand one in 2006 for £12 to keep as spares in case mine developed any issues (one of the ports starting to get loose) but it turns out that one likes to reboot and can't be played on. VGA box connected up to an old CRT monitor, was beautiful! Current LCD panel has VGA too but new TV's don't.

Toy Commander, Virtua Tennis 2, Sonic Adventure, ReVolt, Quake 3, Crazy Taxi and MSR my most played games, still got a cd wallet full of games I haven't touched which I bought when the console went EOL.
