self defence

It's not about being alpha chaps, it's about protecting your wife.
Trust me you would have done the same, trying to grab the wifes boobs sort of done it for me.

If someone is threatening to my mrs i'll kick the **** out of them, fair play to you, if it's me i usually walk away, it has nothing to do with being 'alpha' it's about self respect and the fact that no-one has the right to do what they do, and they should learn there are repercussions to it. As well as the repercussions from reacting to it.

Personally i think this is a wind up, or the OP is wasting my valuable oxygen (especially if he's burning), either way **** off.

LOL! I'd never want to meet Bas Rutten down a dark alley, but then again I'd hear him coming from a mile away "BANG BANG BANG, BOOM RIGHT ELBOW":D

With people like this 9 times out of 10 you just need to learn to be more confident. If you look like you lack confidence they will pick on you to make themselves look tough.
I'd agree with this, and actually learning self-defence helps with this. It's not so much knowing how to leave someone on the floor in a serious amount of pain but knowing that you know how to do it in case the situation calls on it.

Learning a martial art solely with the intention of causing pain to someone is completely the wrong attitude to have.

One of the first things I learnt when I took up karate was that it can often be safer to walk (or run!) away from a situation, and if that's not an option, only then should you rely on your martial arts skills.

Oh, and that Bas Rutten video made me laugh :D

Absolutely.

It almost always is safer, actually.

Like I've said before, any decent self-defence system will teach you how to play down a confrontation before it even turns violent. Only if this doesn't work should you call on your martial skills.

Personally I like to punch people in the kidney.
They usually keel over if you get them just right and can temporarily paralyse them. :D
Leaving you to put the boot in and explain in very clear terms, how you'll wear what you like.

Most 1 on 1 fights are fine, if you get the first shot in the odds are on you.
But if you're outnumbered or they're armed, i've learned, just peg it mate.

Self defence != self offence.

You pretty much aren't allowed to do anything legally in that situation - as there was no threat to life etc...
