Senna

This is out Monday. Does anyone know if it will be the extended version?

The limited edition lotus looks awesome.

Quoting Play, features for both versions of the blu ray

"Interviews (Option from menu to watch branched or non-branched versions of film w/eng forced narratives)"

Seems like it will have them :)

Just watched it for the first time (dvd), 1hr 46 minutes. Loved it, did think it would have had more racing footage such as 1993 european grand prix but still a great film/documentary and well worth the money for an F1 fan and probably worth it even if you aren't.

Don't bother with the xtended edition, it's mostly just extra interview / press coverage that's dubbed.

Nothing wrong with that in small doses but it ruins the flow of the film.

Theres an extended 162 minute that was released as Senna Beyond the Speed of Sound in Italy. It has a lot more footage of Prost in it and seems to rebalance the film away from making it a Prost hate fest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senna_(film)

Maybe the as the UK Blu-ray is 1.45 its somewhere between the cinema release and the extended cut.

Hi guys, just popped into HMV.

Is it worth getting the blu-ray over DVD for this conosidering it's predominantly archive footage?

Thanks

I remember reading a piece in TG magazine from the director saying that wasn't included because "it's been done to death, everyone's seen it".. Shame it wasn't because that was some stunning stuff.

I don't know about this film in particular, but lots of older films it is. As it's recorded on proper film when they digitise it (scanning it in frame by frame) it'll be done at a high resolution for Blu-Ray than the DVD version.

Watched this tonight and even the wife thought it was very good. In particular I found the briefing room(?) sections fascinating, where the FIA officials would be discussing stuff with the drivers.

I think the director/producers did a good job splicing everything together, can't have been easy and I'm glad they resisted the temptation to go for a biography played out by actors.

I've seen both versions and you are right: the standard version does seem to imply that Prost was the baddie.

In the extended version, you get to hear things from his point of view and realise that they were both just as bad/good as eachother.

Still need to see this! Have read/heard nothing but good things, and being a huge F1 fan I am sure I would enjoy it.

It's awesome, and even non F1 fans can appreciate it.

I have only seen the normal version but never once thought they showed Prost as a "baddie" hmmm...must watch again to see if i missed anything

He didn't come accros as a baddue just a throw toys out of pram WDC which is what most WDC are anyway. If it's not going their way they sulk. Just like LH or Alonso

I thought there was the odd bit of clever editing to try and push him as a baddie e.g. the chicane incident where they make sure they show footage of Prost going into the stewards room or whatever it is, bigging up his relationship with Baleste - implication being that Senna was disqualified because of pressure/influence from Prost.

Yep. Prost was definitely being painted as the bad guy.
As some guy who was almost faceless, while Senna was a human. This makes the viewer support the guy who is human (nobody wants to back a faceless person).
In the extended version, you hear quite a big interview with Prost who gives his side of the story and this balances it out.

I think both documentaries (extended and standard) were good.
