Sennheiser gsx 1000 thread?

Are you using HD599s? Or HD598s? :p

What headphones are you running with it? And what games have you been playing? My primary use is gaming, and the ability to have a separate channel for TS does really sound good.

Using Philips Fidelio X1
Games so far has been Battlefield 1, COD4 and CSGO and Planet Coster.

The Separation of communication is a welcome surprise tbh
Not only does it allow you to higher and lower game audio different from say Teamspeak it also allows you to have a much better gaming recording if that's your thing "see Image"

OBS for example can record multi tracks so now if you record game while being in TS it will have Game Audio, Teamspeak, and Mic all on seprate channels no more friends speaking at the wrong time :D

From what am reading its not yet released in USA so the bigger audio review channels don't have review copies.

over the weekend am going to see if recording software will pick up the effects. Unlike the Soundblaster Z I had to use something called What U hear for me too record it.
This doesn't have that so we will se.

On the X-Fi and SBZ, etc. I think the surround is part of the main sound processor and partially software assisted while I suspect this device uses a hardware "sideport" DSP type configuration which may make recording the effect difficult short of tapping into the analogue signal out the headphone socket.

Why not believe him? I even seen his review on rainforest to know he has the unit.

Firstly although it says this is 150ohms I was hoping it could drive the 650s. It can't it results in the 650 having a bloated bass with mid and treble collapsing. But its not spec'ed to run those so I plugged in the HD599 which sound amazing with this amp

Upon opening the box I was shocked and surprised about the size of the amp. Its really diddy - in a good way. The jog wheel for volume is rock solid and the software free interface is very well done. Everything is touch sensitive and when not using it goes dim only to light up again when your hand gets near to the unit. The plastics used are high quality and the product definitely has a premium feel unlike Mixamp or Creative G5 which feel cheap in comparison.

So once plugged in you need to change the playback in windows to "speakers GSX audio" even if using headphones. You can tweak the sound but i run it with everything off bar 7.1.

Testing on BF1 I can safely say this is by far the best positioning audio I've ever heard. Not only that but its incredibly immersive. You can actually hear/feel the direction of the wind. Its almost too much to take in at first. I've been around the block when it comes to simulated surround below is a list of what I've used before

Creative XFI
Razer Surround Software
Mixamp
Creative G5
Sound blaster z
Sound blaster ZXR
Asus Xonar

And probably a couple of others I forgot due to age :D

It blows all those out of the water. When I got the G5 recently I was really unimpressed with the direction of the audio cues. Creative seemed to have tweaked what use to be decent and made it far worse. What's great about the GSX1000 is that its better then Creative ever were at their best.

Now I have a soft spot for the original Mixamp. At the time it was a decent product but DolbyHeadphone while having a roomy presentation always had a weird echo. This has none of that. Its clean, precise and extremely accurate. Its like a Mixamp for grown ups :D

Its a seriously well designed and thought out product.

Going to give it a try now.

How long is the USB cable that comes with this? Also, in the manual what does it mean by "adjusting the sidetone"? Is this how much you hear yourself on comms?

If it does use a configuration like that you'd have to loop back with a cable from the headphone out to a line or mic input and record from that.

May sound stupid but... can it work for music as simple DAC, without any effects? If yes, how does it really improves sound quality over onboard audio?

On ten, for gaming how would you rate the overall improvement of this over onboard audio + free surround software?

Yeah you can remove all effects and just use the DAC + AMP.. Its been ages since I used onboard audio and each MB has different performing audio so its hard for me to answer that.

So if I plug a cable from the headphone out and into my sound card mic input that will record the audio from the unit?

shankly1985, what stand are you using for your Blue Snowball? I assume it doesn't get in your way there when you are gaming.

I think I might buy one of these today. It looks really solid!

Aslong as whatever your recording with can record from just the one input and not mix in all devices yeah - might have to play with volume levels, etc. as well as if its a mic input and a headphone output it will probably very easily drive the mic input into clipping.

Any risk of damage? I wouldnt want to put too much power into a mic port?

GTA5 With the GSX = Wow!! Setting story mode, 7.1 Balanced = Mind Blown! You can hear so much going on around you..

Just been standing middle of a road you can hear people walking along the patch way, Bikes and cars coming from down the road getting louder and louder has they become closer..

So far GTA5 has been the best showcase followed by BF1 although I not played much BF1 Online yet.

Mine should be arriving today. Still not sure if I've made the right choice. My other option was a Schiit stack with HD650s. But as I focus more on gaming, I figured this was a better idea.

Out of interest: Could you connect the headphone output into a small headphone amp, and then run HD650s without a massive impact in quality from the GSX 1000? Or this that a bad idea? Maybe if someone has both they can test this ;)

Played Battlefield 1 online last night and they is a great difference in surround sound vs what i have used before.. You really can hear everything around you its quite a moment.. Think most people thought I was AFK half the time haa Nope just taking in the sound ha

So far I after say am very happy with the product feel its defo an upgrade path for me.
