Sennheiser HD650 - The classic beauty in a grey dress Appreciation thread!

600s get hyped to **** in 1-2 places which seems to have some impact on the price from time to time :s maybe just coincidence dunno.

There must be an element of that. Maybe there's just a lower supply of the 600s anyway - i wouldnt be surprised if the 650s sell in larger volumes and so when supply runs dry, which seems to be entirely senn's fault, stock of the 600s is worse and the price hikes up even further as a result. maybe!

Yeah around 1.5m is what I'm after. I'll go for the one I linked I think, it's cheap enough to be throwaway if it turns out rubbish.

I ended up just bunching the cable up with two velcro cable tidies at either end of the bunch to keep it neat. the bunch just sits beside my keyboard when im using them, doesnt really look out of place. however, i would still like a shorter cable and i've been looking myself. These are another option https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/hvm/Repl...F8&qid=1498686033&sr=1-2&keywords=hd650+cable

Again, throwaway money. Reviews seem positive.

I'll end up ordering one of them tonight, once i've made my mind up lol.

Yeah my cable is currently bunched together, but it's a bit bulky as the stock cable isn't exactly compact to begin with.

The Amazon one I linked to before arrived today and it appears it be very well built. I need to listen to stuff more to tell, but initial impressions are that sonically there's no difference to the original cable.

Well, unless there's something seriously wrong in cable of either Sennheiser or Amazon differences are unlikely...

Chrome plug alone wouldn't look that special but it's that reflection of it from that front panel which makes it perfect fit.

Oh I know that! I was more referring to cheap and poor quality soldering or construction of the cable, it did come from some industrial estate in China according to the shipping note. Perfectly evidenced by Phillips use of a high resistance cable on the Fidelio X1 compared to the low resistance one on the X2. Swapping the X1 cable for something else resulted in an audible difference in sound.

I wonder if there are enough differences in impurities in your average coat hanger versus a semi-decent audio cable to be measurable as noise.

Got my purple HD 650s belting out some seriously impressive sounds through my Zero Zone Lehmann BCL clone and CA Dacmagic Plus. The Dacmagic is quite bright and as such really helps bring the top end out in the 650s. Really impressed and this is by far the best combo I've heard or owned.

are there any measurements taken that show one cable to be better than another? shielding is the only difference I thought?

also...I ended up with another pair of 650's...the clamping force is extreme!, regardless of soundstage/quality there's no way I'm going to drift off in to the music and forget I'm wearing headphones! I've not owned or tried a lot of headphones but these are so tight! even after trying bending the metal bands (which I'm nottoo keen on)

To properly bend them, you should take the steel strips that the cups hang from out of the headband. Bending them with the headphones still assembled could damage the headband. There are two little rectangular black plastic clips, one at each end of the headband. Remove these then the strips will easily pull out.

I had them fully extended before trying to bend but will see how these come off and give it a try, it's what playing with a ruler at school was like...just expecting it to snap!

I really need to get one of these, it's got to the stage where I am using my Sony MDR-1As in preference to my HD650s because I am fed up of running over the cable with my chair.

Scrub that, I just bought one for £10.99 (on sale), it arrives monday :D

Hi folks. I'm another HD 650 owner and a fan too. I power them from a Project Ember MkII fed by an ODAC XL. I've owned countless headphones and heard even more and, while the Senn's aren't the best for everything, they're the closest I've came to a satisfctory all-rounder. The Project Ember helps a lot. One thing though - I always use the Sonarworks plugin using the 'No Limits' profile. Awesome!

Very impressed with this KetDirect 1.5m replacement cable from the rainforest - the highs are clearer, the bass has more slam, the birds in the trees sing in jubilation and the jam on my toast tastes sweeter in the morning. :D

Seriously though, for £10.99 it does what is expected, looks good (all black, braid lower), seems well built and doesn't get tangled in the wheels on my chair and I count that as a win.

I finally caved and ordered a set of memory foam ear pads off Amazon. I was going to rpelace the stock pads with a genuine replacement but saw they were £32. For the sake of £13, I'm happy to try memory foam ones, as that is what I miss most about the K7XX/X1 and X2.

Will post back thoughts once they arrive!

I've just ordered one of these for mine, as the OEM one is miles too long.

Ooh, in that case I very much look forward to hearing your views on them as the pads on mine are getting rather tatty.

:( I've been conned!

Whilst these pads are very good, they are not memory foam. they are standard foam just like the stock pads. I'll let Amazon know about this, but because they were only £13, they will serve as a near 1:1 replacement for worn out stock pads. They also come with the foam insert. The mesh on those appears to be slightly less dense than the stock ones which is a good thing, as many people remove the inserts in favour or no insert or thinner ones to open up some more spacial imaging apparently. This appears to be the middle ground so that's fine by me.

The comfort is exactly the same as the stock pads.
