Maybe ET's Calling, But We Have the Wrong Phone
Astronomy Without a Telescope - SETI 2.0

Run SETI on a GPU?
Run SETI on only one PC?

Sorry once again for the lack of news last week. This edition covers the past fortnight.

Our RAC has dropped a little compared to what it was two weeks ago, but that's due to issues with the servers at Berkeley so there's nothing to worry about.

Welcome to the new members, and as always congrats to the tiffy winners! Don’t forget that you can get your tiffies from www.teamocuk.co.uk; simply click on your username, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the relevant urls to display them in all their Technicolor beauty on this forum! If you think you have been missed off the milestones list, please let me know and I’ll add you manually.

Well, about a thousand completed work units uploaded and reported with no problems.

But getting no work in return.

Still got a little in reserve :D

Still got a little in reserve :D

Your lucky.
Its typical i get back from holiday to find the main rig out of work and not uploading/downloading so switched it off. To top it off i'm at work atm so it'll be 12Hrs before i can try to upload again and knowing my luck the servers will be down again by that time  nice to see nothing changes :p
At least the small rig has some work to keep going at.

I sympathise with your bad luck :(

And rejoice that I may be able to extend my lead (not by much - but every little helps) :D

My pending just dropped 60k to 220k

RAC a poor 32k :D

Just checked again (5 mins later) and:

Pending: 215,259.61

RAC: 33,336.60

Total: 6,246,601

Seems a lot of validation is going on.

Regarding: "Starting next week our servers will be turned off for several days a week"

Me thinks that my cause more problems..........................

Hmm...

Interesting.

:eek::eek::eek:

That's not good - My Fermi Rig has always had a ten day cache, but Im guessing as it is new and the time to completions are all out, in reality it never has work past a 2 day outage, then I run out..
I think this will have a big impact on quite a few people...

I managed to get 40 tasks last night, but they are nearly gone and I have requesting work to no avail since 8pm last night...

I don't know. The message could be read several ways (I very much doubt they will just take all the servers except the DB servers off-line). I read it as being a case of "during Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we will concentrate on things other than servers". As long as they keep the assimilators, validators and splitters running - and tapes fed, I don't think it will be that bad (although it could get a bit messy for the mega-crucnhers). This way, the servers could be sorting out what's been uploaded, and prepare for the next torrent. Obviously, Monday and Friday will become fire-fighting days with people connecting to re-fill their cache and upload their completed results - and timing the connections will play a massive role in whether a decent sized cache can be kept running (I got caught out yesterday with a 3 hour back-off 20 minutes before the servers came back up). Having said that, I haven't run out of work, my cache is healthy-ish and my RAC (as reported by the SAH SITE) has been 17-20K over this latest outage storm, with 18K being generally what I see as my norm'. I think we will just have to wait and see.

Yeah 10 day cache here i come

On another note my RAC just hit shy of 17K take that Area 51 (hopes his pending is pap :p)

Mr Marine Iguana

It appears that you have responded to my parp and increased your output. I am therefore forced to temporarily retract it and begrudgingly pay homage!!!!!!:(

However, your output is still not good enough to hold me off. I have 24K more in pending than I would normally expect to see, and my RAC is still higher than yours. Additionally, the two remaining machines that form part of the Groom Lake Data Centre have been switched over to Prime Grid (as was my plan when Dark Orion came up to speed), and although their output is small I can always switch them back..........

Enjoy your victory - it will be short lived :D

Hmm...

Interesting.

Can't say I'm surprised. They just don't have the resources to keep the project running all the time now. Everything has been suffering recently.

May also be an over-reaction to the incessant complaining on their forums. Can't blame them for that, either.

Thanks for the news TT, though your tiffy winners list is somewhat incomplete. ;)

from the seti news post

In addition to gaining developer time, we will take advantage of public server outages to run the science servers at full bore, getting all of the database resources. So science production, as well as science development, will increase.

If they can fill up the 10 day caches, then it will be OK, I can't blame them, they have been struggling for so long nowe, hopefully this will help with uptime.
This might mean that the team OCUK combined boinc stats will become more relevant as I think based on current conditions (I have 3 rigs out of work and crunching MW), other backup projects might come into play more...

http://boincstats.com/stats/boinc_team_stats.php?pr=bo&st=0

we are at 51st and not looking good for stomps based on the current RAC..

But the postie did drop this off
