SETI@home News Vol. 111 (23/07/2010)

Hopefully I will have enough time to set it up over the weekend and get some work this time round :)

I haven't a clue about how these need to be setup so will be fun haven't had a new GPU for a while now :)

So, the gloves are off ????!!!!!

Are you gonna run it side by side with your existing GPU? There is a thread over ion the S@H forums that talk about how to do it........

Afternoon Edge, just out of curiosity did you ever find suitable software that let you monitor your rig from home?

Hi Toxic
No not really...
I use a VPN and connect to work then use ultraVNC to get a session onto the box itself...
It works, but what Id really like is a management program that will let me monitor all my machines running seti with a history and charts and more analysis of the results Im returning..

Have you tried BOINC Tasks? You could set it up on one machine, which could then be used to monitor all of the others. That would mean you only need to connect to the one running BOINC Tasks. Not sure how much history you want, or how much you want in the way of charts though.....

I just know that means you took the bacofoil option :D:D:D

Sitll got a few bits for it :D some nice new gauges coming.

But its become too late to get it to the show for me and I know that little hole I made in my driver side pillar is filling my footwell up with water as I speak  as I forgot to put its cover back over so that is gonna be fun drying it back out :(:(:(

Will take a look

rofl.....
i know i was going to jump the 4** generation, but I was thinking... (oh dear)
how does a 460 compare to a 250?
also, the card length is much shorter right? it looks like them 250s, which means.... it will probably fit in those cases already sporting those cards...
yes no?

The gainwards i've got are 20cm long but i think they have a custom PCB that is slightly shorter than referance cards if thats any help.

Just had a look at my pending credit

385,664.47

That means I will break 500K tomorrow - an all time record..
Quite nice, I know the high totals are down to a lot of these ghost units floating around, but it is still money in the bank so to speak :p

I know mine won't be as high as some but my pending is at 470k........

Both my 470's are running smooth with shaders @ 1500.

Temps are a respectable 84 - 87 with fans running at 61 - 64%.

3 tasks per GPU - what more could you ask?

Got 511 units left of which 175 are VHAR's with 0 VLAR's - so it's gonna be close on whether I run out before outage ends.

I must have been lucky then...
1274 wu's to upload
2483 gpu wu's left

more work than I can complete before Fri, and this is with me just leaving the rig completely alone due to being on leave - it downloaded all that without any intervention from me..

I'm curious....which indicates a small level of brain activity

Have had shedloads 650/700 of these cpu tasks seemingly time out on me, i take it the elapsed time limit is in seconds which means round about 50 mins is allowed per task. But being the curious type (and plain bored today) i sat and actually watched them start-progress-time out, they're all erroring out after 5-6 mins.
Could not think of anything i could do except restart boinc, did not want to get too into it and loose the last 3 days work.....any ideas?

Not sure tbh, I think they are shorties = there are two types of gpu units, long ones that take 12-15 mins, and the shorties which take about 5 mins. Why they are errors I dont know, they are running fine on mine, check your results and see what the error message is and post on the seti forums?

Well I think my GPU oc is coming along nicely........

Been runing all day (not a single error) both GTX470's @ 1600 Shaders & 1700 Memory.

Temps 93/94 with fans @ 68/70%.

I think thats pretty good with an air cooled system :)

Volts increased to 1050 mV

Pity I'm down to 208 GPU work units (of which 0 VLAR's & 74 VHAR's)
