SETI@home News Vol. 112 (08/08/2010)

Tiffynation! nice ones indeed pnutty, kolala br83 taylor and loudbob :D:D:D
Yup still have the 2 800d cases loudbob, they make smashing door jams i must admit. Let me know what you want for the nvidia case.
K3v got the dog back today, a hefty bill and a round trip to liverpool and still no one knows whats wrong with him. Took a good look at him and he's just not himself so going to make the most of it and bring forward a 6 day short break to scotland 1 man (yes Mr Halz sah i am a bloke) a dog and a tent leave in the morning be back late saturday/sunday :)

I wish i had known you had got a 800d going spare, ive just bought a 700d and im sure we could have done a deal.. oh well that will teach me not to read the threads properly.

Sorry to hear about the dog. Is he any better now? did you have a good camping trip?

Here's the tiffy I was really waiting for ;)

You guys have some nice tiffys as well :)

Bit worried about K3v, just crawled passed you and now you're talking of water cooling. What coms next, new kit to beat picnic up with ;)

you dont have anything to worry about from me unfortunately, by the time i get round to getting another GPU, you will have well and truelly crawled off into the sunset...... hardly a crawl BTW ;)

How do you guys crunch so fast, I only crunch about 8 WU's in 5 hours?

I am assuming you want more..........
You can more or less forget about cpu crunching these days, GPU crunching is where its at if your competitive.
According to your sig you run a HD5770 so your choices are as follows.....
If you really want to do SETI and no other project - sell the Radeon, get a nvidia card (seek advice here first)
If SETI isnt essential crunch Milkyway@home instead, your Radeon will love you for it :)
Or stay as you are crunching CPU only on SETI.
Have a look here to see whats projects support specific GPU's.....

For ATI supported projects

Simplez :D

Well I can't just sit here doing nothing! So I've fired up seti on weebeaties gpus :)

We salute you S'ah on a wise decision

Ok thanks, but Milkyway@home needs the double precision feature which my card doesn't have :( Oh well I will just have to carry on with just my CPU.

Damn it, thats the second time I have got that wrong :o and I have the list of supported cards as well

Gives you a rough idea...

My credit this week is screwed, I noticed yesterday that pretty much all my cpu workunits were erroring out? Dropped my clocks all back to standard on cpu and gpu, no difference..
Came in this morning, out of memory errors  It would appear that the glut of wu's I downloaded (5000+) is just too much for my RAM, I haven't produced anything meaningful for about 18hrs now - at least my einstein@home credits will rise as I have suspended cpu crunching on seti for the moment.
Gonna have to buy some RAM, but that has to wait until next month now so 2 weeks with low RAC for me...
Reaver - please wave as you go by!
Loudbob - gutted as I though I could hold you off for a while yet :(

Whats the issue with this?

I have had the same issue - all cpu work keeps getting computation errors (so I just aborted all of it) - I'm using WinXP with 4Gb Ram (3Gb due to 32bit OS).

Any solutions?

Get more ram or switch to a 64bit OS? Perhaps lower your cache a little bit. Anyone analysed if it is actually BOINC thats eating all the pies?
