SETI@home News Vol. 116 (19/09/2010)

Well, I've sort of quit SETI for a while. Just fixing the unacceptable position I was in over at climateprediction.net. Ranked 120th - I don't think so! :D

Just leave this here :)

The servers seem to have been pretty much back to normal (?) since yesterday afternoon. My total for the next news won;t be great because the constant server failures mean I'd been running only CUDA units on all three machines for over two weeks, and one of them ran out of even those a week ago.

good morning - is there anyway to put a flag to unload aero when i start seti? im thinkingthats whats taking up the vram , as both my gtx 460 is showing 738 (instead of 768) and the wifes card is 240 instead of 256

nope no spare rig, just gonna start on it later need some kip and a clear head then i can set about destroying it if i need to :D

Yup good idea it worked for me, course there might be an rma involved but fingers crossed you get it going real soon Mr M :)

Someone else might be able to answer your question better than me but could you dissable aero before you start seti somehow? :)

Nice new feature can search for astropulse etc a lot quicker with the new buttons :D

That huge astropulse task i had from a few weeks ago is still pending, no suprise there but will be interesting to see what i get for the massive amount of processing time :D

You can disable aero from the control panel, but how to disable it when seti starts is another matter.
Try disabling it completely and then try seti and see if it will use both cards..

thanks for the help last night guys..

well ive pugged in a spare monitor extend desktop was on by default and boinc will still not use the 280. ive tripple checked everything else and i cant see any problems.
at least the 460 has given me a nice boost.

Why not just crunch SETI under a separate account; one that's stripped bare?

it works on my pc , its just cuda on the wifes machine with her 8600GT ; likely i`ll just get her something like an old 9600GT 512mb if i can find one cheap enough

You could configure Windows to disable Aero when you start BOINC Manager.

To do this: Find BOINC Manager on the Start menu, right click and select properties, then compatibility, then check 'disable desktop composition', then OK. Job done. :)

Well something has died and don't know what using a mobile and ipod for a replacement pc is hard work :D

Will try psu and gpus in my mates rig if they work then it's down to board, memory or cpu :( either way i am very bored lol.

that's bad luck pal. I woke this morning to another water leak, water had dripped out from one of the CPU connections that has been fine for about a year, all over my new gpu. luckily everything is still working, I've got some new fittings coming, time to redo the tubing I think.
