SETI@home News Vol. 116 (19/09/2010)

Mr ToxicTbag, why not run Rosetta, there are a few others doing Seti, Einstein, Milkyway and Rosetta.

Mr Area51, thats not borg tech, its out of Dr Who , some relation to K9 :D

The 790i Ultra - my board of choice for some time now :)

Mr Halz i isn't showing off honest its just that i've been looking for one for so long i cant tell you and it went right down to the wire on the bay i can tell you - chuffed to bits :D

Oh dear hope Borkley is OK :(

^^ Also WTF is that!!! :D

:eek:Errrrrr....i'm allmost speechless....is it some kind of Borg ghetto blaster  :D

I did say it wouldn't win any design prizes :D:D:D

Have you ever tried to fit 2 240 radiators and reservoirs inside an R3????

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Now, where can I put a third rad'????????

If a PC were regarded as a thing of beauty you would be deported :p

Evening Mr Kolala sah, once i get my green beastie up and running i may well just do that thanks for the input - Ambient temps have improved loads since you were here, in fact around 3-4am there's a nip in the air :D

Ang on a minute - earth calling Mr Edgedemon - when your about give us the low down on the collider project.

lhc@home - set it up and leave it running - don't worry about resource share as work for it is rare at the moment, just leave it running in the background..
Also try rosetta - that is a project that gives low credit per wu, but runs in boinc and does a similar job to folding..

Do ya know, you couldnt be more right, christ progress is hard won on that project.
Its seti's fault I'm buzzing you on Einstein, the only question that remains is will Berkeley save your bacon ? :D

fingers crossed that they will :D

As soon as Borkeley sort their problems out and there's a stats update I'll do the news for the past week. It didn't seem worthwhile posting anything before that as the stats haven't updated for the past three days or so.

And Area 51... that rig looks like it's been taken out of some Mothership or other. Are you hiding something from us? :D

....its getting that heavy I could never have lifted it from such a place even if I worked out for 6 months!!! Might have to strengthen the desk soon!

Its been called various things so far by some very unkind people who do not appreciate beauty when they see it.......;)

Thats a fair point, there have been some comments that have been over the top.
It's a strange looking beast, very.... ahem 'industrial' looking... :D
At the end of the day, as long as it crunches enough ppd, who cares, just don't turn up at any LAN parties with it

I take it all in the spirit I suspect the comments were made (I always said it would look industrial); and I like the barking mad look (kind of like the mad inventor in the shed). I posted the picture as I knew it would generate some amusement :D

At the end of the day, you just can't shove this amount of hardware inside this case - and sticking the rads on a desktop is asking for trouble. I know some people attach them to walls, but I can see trouble in that direction ;) ! Plus, keeping the rads and reservoirs outside the case means they don't add to the case heat, or absorb heat from the case - and the loops themselves are as short as I can practically make them and have very little vertical displacement.

RAC-wise, this should top 50k when its up to speed with the third GPU, and dropping a 4th 285 in and pairing the cards together on each loop would probably put it at about 65k - but that last phase won't be for some months yet as I don't have the funds for a fourth card and/or 2 more water blocks - yet, but I will keep working on it and it will have its fiull complememnt of GPUs eventually.

Afternoon peeps :)
Before i start having a try out of rosetta or lhc, is there anything i need to be aware of ? Or are they simple set and forget projects anything a newbie might need to know i would appreciate.
Most kind chaps and ta in advance :)

**Edit** I think this is one for Mr Berserker, trying to follow the link to join or create account lhc page brings up this error
