Several publishers trying to avoid making SP content!

I would not be surprised if the next GTA is not already in the planning stages, although I would not be surprised if further along.

Initial release date for GTAV was 17th Sept 2013. I would have thought the script for 6 is well along the way if not complete. Like you suggest well out of the panning stages at least.

Really hope going forward we do not get less single player experiences. I like mainly SP games and if they made less and less of those I would slowly stop upgrading my GPU. Might get to a stage where I just upgrade a lot less, which is already starting to happen anyway.

We have not had a game like Crysis which pushed things forward for a long time. The only reason I upgrade now is for 4K and well I suppose I like new cards. Nvidia should sponsors Crytek to make a new reboot of Crysis that is a PC exclusive which makes Titans crawl to their knees maybe. They could have graphics options in settings where they make it clear it is for future hardware, so people who use them and get 20fps do not cry so hard.

Currently I have a nice balance between the Nintendo Switch and PC. My Mario pre-order should be here soon which will keep me happy for some time :)

What the hell... I don’t want to go back here when you had to wait years to play the games at good framerates.

I think you misunderstood my post. You would still be able to play the game just fine. Just not on maximum settings. Now if you are the type that must have every game at maximum setting no matter what or you won't play, then I can see where you are coming from.

When I played Crysis for the first time in 2007 at everything low it was still a slideshow. I never got out of the beach until years later.

:( The future isn't looking great for gaming.

I think that 10% figure for PC sales is for steam, so it'll be more when you take into account the non steam sales and physical copies.

Got to be honest, I play way more co-op multiplayer games these days than single player ones. I do play the occassional single player one but generally speaking I get more fun and more bang for my buck with games that I can play with my friends and family. Especially co-op ones.

I prefer multiplayer. Open world and mmo games. I think they are more fun and are the future.

Singleplayer will be like platform games.

When you play online you can still play solo in many games.

Greedy CEO of Take 2 proving the point £3.4billion worth of GTA5 sales is not enough for him apparently (8.5M copies sold on PC alone!).

You seem surprised that a business is trying to make money.

I think you might be missing the point of why people play and enjoy single-player games. It's not the solitary conditions, it's the immersion, the storyline, the characters etc. You tend not to get that in multiplayer-focused games or modes.

It's probably because the amount of time players spend on multiplayer vs singleplayer will be something like 20:1 on average, they want to invest their time into the content that players typically spend most of their time on. Also yes, businesses are greedy, it's what allows them to make a profit and employ people like us, so we can go out and buy PC's and video games and eat.

Im pleased, single player gaming is horrifically dull to me... there is zero satisfaction in beating AI.

It's not really beating AI that gets you the satisfaction. It's the gripping story and journey that some games have. Think Last of Us or Mass Effect. Those are what singleplayer experiences should be. Not just endless waves of AI enemies like Battlefield singleplayer.

Bang on the money, sp games are the modern incarnation of the "choose your own adventure" story books.

Plus as i said earlier in the thread and i'll say it again, online pvp is very competitive and often you need a good level of skill to compete well enough to enjoy yourself. This takes time and many instances of getting killed over and over until you build up your skills.

Some people just dont have the time/patience/skill level to enjoy competitive multiplayer games and these people are perfectly happy to play a sp or co-op campaign with easier difficulty and just immerse themselves in a good story.

I’m in mid 30’s and have never played a game in my life with a great story and that includes last of us, mass effect, bio shock etc

They may be good by video game standards but that’s not saying much...

Maybe in twenty years time when technology has improved and I can actually watch a cut scene and not cringe at the lip sync and uncanny valley vibes... then I’ll start to be able to take video game stories seriously but as it stands they are pretty weak form of storytelling imo... especially if the subject matter is trying to be serious.

That's $500million on GTA5 PC alone (excluding DLC sales) I think GTA6 is 100% certain on PC as well!

That's $500billion

What? :p

Also, I very much doubt all those 8.5 million were full RRP, plus deduct changes for regional variances then deduct commission paid to digital distributors and also allow for sale prices, I would guess the "profit" per title is about maybe £16 on average.

That equates to around £1.5 million (rounded up a fair bit) profit for PC based on those figures.

I appreciate a solid, well structured single player experience.

Devs really need to get to grips with persistent world, multiplayer gaming in the confines of a 10 hour "campaign".
