Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Question to those of you that played the earlier Tomb Raider games. I seen a little bit of this and Rise, and liking what I seen, so one day I be going to play them but wondering if any of the other Tomb Raider games has to be played first ?? If so, which ones and what order ?

FPS are pretty terrible. Its all over the place they really meant it when they said its an RTX game! Steam forums are full of people complaining you have to dial back a lot of settings to get a constant FPS. Even simple scenes are a real drag right now. I think its the Denuvo DRM like on the last game sapping FPS. graphics in the jungle are not bad but some of the other areas look pretty average lighting especially is quite dull. This game needs more work on PC right now the constant micro stuttering is a not giving a good gaming experience :( I have the latest 399.24 GeForce as well as all the very latest Win 10 updates installed.

Havent played yet so I dont know what they are like in this but I rolled back the 399.24 drivers because they wrecked the performance in my other games.

Just came to part of the jungle where the Water FX are hands down the greatest you have ever seen in any game simply incredible Water FX  :D

When the game is not stuttering it has to be said its jungle looks way better than Crysis1 graphically ;)

Disabling Motion Blur actually fixes some of the stuttering

1080Ti here.

4K30 on highest + ultra where available and 16x anistropic filtering. Pretty sure it is locked at 30 which is a great feat given it is easily the best looking game ever made.

Looks amazing. 4K60 doesn't seem necessary so far (only just finished the first Act and moved to jungle) and would require significant tweaking.

Temporal AA is amazing. All games should have it.

One thing I would say is I hope they cut down on the cut scenes being so frequent.

Also great to see Ryzen performing well on this after being so poor on ROTR. 2600X here and easily capable of pushing high framerates.

3440x1440

have everything ultra except motion blur and bloom turned off!

yea the water and some of the jungle parts are incredible!
That explains it 4K is way more demanding than 3440x1440! 4.9M pixels vs 8.4M!
Just came to a quite charming Young Lara level which was well done & nice throwback to the classic 1990s TR games. It would be perfect for younger players except for the ending :(

First hour or so of the game is pretty poor graphically it has to be said you need to wade through that before it picks up to 2018 graphical levels you would expect from such a high profile big budget game.

Bodes well for me then because I thought the first hour looked great on Cohhs stream, so if thats what it looks like when its poor, then I am in for an added bonus :)

Its quite clearly the best looking game ever made on any platform to date (apart from the first hour or so & a few rough looking art direction choices) so yep you will enjoy the gfx for sure ;)

Water FX + Ultra Textures look very good indeed. Only thing lets it down a little is the lens flare seem to be muted or missing & the drab art direction in places. The whole artwork tone is photorealistic they are not going for fantasy game style here at all.

Would like to know as well. Each part is a separate story and I can start with the latest one or should I play two previous first?

I'd recommend playing them in order as the storylines sort of explain how she went from run of the mill to badass, in effect combined they are like a giant origin story, so it might be weird from a story telling point of view if you play them in a different order and she seems to get weaker rather than stronger,

From what I found out don't have to play them all. Tomb Raider 2013 - Raise of the Tomb Raider and then Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Those are enough for this 'time line'. If you wanting the full chaoot, here is a link: http://tombraider.wikia.com/wiki/Tomb_Raider_Games
