Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

What display do you have? HDR is working on my LG Oled via HDMI, it's just irritating having to enable desktop HDR when it's not required in any other games. Guess I'll have to suck it up and enable it every time i play SOTTR.
LG 49" Super Nano via DisplayPort as PC HDMI 2.0 does not like Nvidia's drivers it forces ltd colour range instead of full as Nvidia refuse to fix! Same display HDR works perfectly on Xbox1X & my standalone 4K UHD Player LOL. Looks incredible as well! But PC is a big no as AMD 1920X CPU & no Intel GPU on the motherboard or Intel SGX CPU so it fails the Win 10 HDR test LOL. In the end I bought an Xbox1X about 6 months ago just got fed up with this HDR DRM nonsense which is in effect Intel imposing their previous monopoly on gamers to force you to buy an Intel GPU based motherboard (few AMD motherboards have those) & Intel SGX CPU.

28% through it now. Game is absolutely vast I ONLY just reached the main hub after a good ten hours! It will take a month to get through all the launch content then 7 months worth of DLC on the season pass.

One thing is for sure this is by far the best looking game on PC & truly next gen graphics. This will push people to buy an RTX although its a lot of money for 1 decent looking game! Its impossible to see the difference through screenshots or video but once in front of a decent display & you play the game you will know its a very good looking game & really pushes the limits graphically (although first hour looks poor so make allowances for that until you reach the jungle).

Water FX are so good the underwater is crystal clear when it needs to be but you can also see fish from the distant just swimming under the surface  also some of the underwater swimming sections contain a lot of different fish shoals & the lighting is very good here.

The artwork style is very realistic its not a fantasy art style game at all. Lens flare is missing though either its a bug (like the 2013 game launched without it for some reason!) or intentional but the pretty onscreen FX from Rise when you get dirty or bloody are not really present here which means the torch also does not have lens flare either (torch effect is pretty weak sadly).

Gameplay wise if you like the last 2 Crystal Dynamics TR games then this is just more of the same gameplay there is virtually no difference whatsoever except for greatly enhanced graphics & a truly massive overall map size.

Lens flare is stupid in my opinion anyway, unless you are playing the game through a camera why would you see lens flare? My eyes aren't lenses! This, along with motion blur are the two things I always turn off given the option.

The game is annoyingly too dark in places. Just over the top.

Found the problem. The torch doesn't actually turn on in a lot of places and hence its almost pitch black :/. Replay the same section again and it might turn on.

Also other little graphical glitches in a lot of places which take away from the experience.

It runs fantastic on a 1070 at 1440p, everything on max for me. There is the odd stutter but that's a game issue that will affect everybody no matter their spec, sure they will patch that pretty quick

I'm running a 75hz 3440x1440 Freesync monitor with Vega and some little settings tweaks were all I needed to keep performance around 60 fps with practically no visual difference, at least not to my eye, I get dips into the low 50's but it spends most it's time in the high 50's or above and that's fine with this type of game,

At around 10 minutes into the Peruvian jungle I found an area where I got an unplayable experience with strong judders that lasted for about a minute and then disappeared and thankfully it hasn't returned, so far the games great and there's been some spectacular vista's I've put in the spoilers below. It has the best cut-scenes I've seen to date.

Unlock time is 6PM today on Steam unless you bought the Croft or Deluxe editions! Same old Steam BS there is not even a PC Physical retail copy available anywhere! PS4 + XB1 players could play their physical discs last weekend :(

As someone that just complete Rise, this game couldn't interest me less. More of the same is just pretty boring tbh.
They need a shake up of the mechanics

Sure it could ! , it could interest you so little that you dont look at screens or videos of it, you dont open threads about it and you dont post in threads about it. All of those things would definitely represent it interesting you less :D

Question to those of you that played the earlier Tomb Raider games. I seen a little bit of this and Rise, and liking what I seen, so one day I be going to play them but wondering if any of the other Tomb Raider games has to be played first ?? If so, which ones and what order ?

@TheSwede Play Tomb Raider then Rise of the Tomb Raider then Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
