Shave my balls, bigot!

That does seem like it, he’s a nonce/predator with a hatred of immigrants who tried to take advantage of the current trend for being “woke” and fighting for social justice etc... only he’s taken it was too far and found out that claiming to be trans doesn’t provide for immunity. Of course with no move to make now he’s just doubled down on it and seems to be milking to controversy. Unfortunately, as a result, he’s probably still going to find some small group of “activists” who will blindly support him based on his identity while ignoring what he’s done.

I've hear that for some trans it's a fetish rather than a genuine need to change sex. I have a feeling he's one of those cases

I remember when being a transvestite was popular, especially with the likes of Lily Savage and RuPaul. But it seems they are pressured in to joining the trans-sexual movement.

I noticed Eddie Izzard as started calling himself a trans-sexual even though he only likes dressing up in womens clothes. It's a bit of an insult to the trans community in my opinion.

I think Eddie is trans, those others are drag acts.

He's a transvestite.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transvestism

Transvestism is the practice of dressing and acting in a style or manner traditionally associated with the opposite sex. In some cultures, transvestism is practiced for religious, traditional, or ceremonial reasons.

From Eddie's wikipage:

In the past, Izzard identified as a transvestite, and he has also called himself "a lesbian trapped in a man's body" and "a complete boy plus half girl". Izzard started to publicly identify as transvestite in venues such as the Edinburgh Festival as early as 1992. His stance is that the way he dresses is neither part of his performance nor a sexual fetish. He said "I don’t call it drag; I don’t even call it cross-dressing. It’s just wearing a dress...It’s not about artifice. It’s about me just expressing myself."

I'm not against him doing what he wants to do. I've always liked the guy. I just think its sad that he's probably been peer pressured to now calling himself transgender, when under the original meaning it meant you wanted to change from one gender to another.

Back in the day there was a lot of men who got pleasure from dressing up as women. They didn't want to change sex and be a woman. It was just their thing. Someone could dress as a big yellow banana for all I cared, as long as it didn't become compulsory :).

You keep repeating that he was "pressured" or "probably been peer pressured" to call himself transgender, with no evidence of such pressure.

Pressurised might be a little strong but he's certainly modified his expression to keep up with the what's acceptable.....

Izzard is transgender, identifying as "somewhat boy-ish and somewhat girl-ish".When asked what pronouns he prefers, Izzard said "either 'he' or 'she.'"In the past, Izzard identified as a transvestite, and he has also called himself "a lesbian trapped in a man's body"

Transvestites (or at least people who use the term) often aren't liked by people who think they are Transgender as it turns what they claim to be something totally inherent (presenting socially as a woman) into something that's a bit more of an escape/ leisure time activity.

In this regard its probably a lot easier now for Izzard to say he's 'transgender' rather then just that he likes wearing women's clothes on some occasions (which is more consistent with tradition transvestism). He would likely be subject of a social media lynching these days if he made the old joke about being "a lesbian trapped in a mans body" aswell.

The Pinknews article is also being misleading when it talks about transvestism being seen as a medical disorder (implicitly suggesting that being 'transgender' wasn't also seen as being one as well up until rather recently aswell)

DSM-IV-TR Diagnostic Criteria For Gender Identity Disorder

A. A strong and persistent cross-gender identification (not merely a desire for any perceived cultural advantages of being the other sex).

The more inconvenient truth is that its

So is he looking to take hormones and have his bits cut off? Because if all he's going to do is keep dressing in women's clothing then he can't really call himself transgender

Yea, people are screen shotting Fetlife comments from from guys who like to role play women as a Fetish to get off vs actual people with gender dismorphia.

I can only imagine you are putting your own insecurities of being peer pressured onto him as no where have I ever seen a hint of him expressing that. In fact when he did the JRE he was very open about doing and saying whatever he wanted.

indeed... does peer pressure ever happen to some folk (regardless of details?) Sure!
Does Eddie Izzard come accross as someone who gives a flying fig what anyone else things about him?

I dont reckon so.

PS as an aside i do not know him and some here may be about to shatter an illusion but, from what i have seen of him, what a legend he is!.

You're not that old then if you can't remember.

Why do you think he would start calling himself transgender after calling himself a transvestite for nearly 30 years?

Someone can change their mind for reasons other than peer pressure.

Nothing I have seen or heard about Izzard would suggest he is Transgender. He has always said he likes wearing whatever clothes he feels comfortable in. He has never to my knowledge suggested he is anything other than male. It’s a misuse of the word to call him anything else other than a transvestite.
