Shevchenko to leave...?!?

I'm not surprised that Milan isn't putting up much of a fight for Shevchenko cause for a guy who will soon be 30 and to get around £35m for him would be a big welcome.

From what I've heard from Italy, the likes of £35m is hard to turn down especially when you know that next season, that fee could be cut by upto half that.
Age doesnt matter as long as they perform. Italy knows this more than most countrys.
I dont see why it'd be half that next season, he's contracted till 2009.

Its looking bad. :(
AC Milan's Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko has revealed he is considering leaving the Rossoneri this summer - for family reasons.

Shevchenko, 29, who has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, thi evening read out a statement confirming reports that he may leave the San Siro after a seven-year stay.

"It's pointless trying to hide things from the fans," he said.

"I'm thinking of leaving because of my family. I spoke to the president and we discussed the possibility. No definite decision has been made."

The Ukraine international said he would call another press conference when he decides where his future lies.

Earlier today, Milan president Silvio Berlusconi dropped a broad hint about Shevchenko's likely destination.

Speaking to a group of students in front of the prime minister's office, the former Italy president is reported by the website of Gazzetta dello Sport to have said: "Do you know that Shevchenko wants to leave? He wants to go to England."

And Chelsea are in the market for a world-class striker...

The former European Footballer of the Year joined Milan from Dynamo Kiev in 1999. He will captain Ukraine at the World Cup this summer in Germany.

Came up on SSN (after he said he was considering leaving) that he wants to leave. Like i said this came up 10-15mins after it said he was considering leaving.
Sheva for Liverpool :D

It cant be money. He's our top earner.
And he's already said that if he extends his contract, he doesnt want more money.
The only thing i can think of is a personality clash with Carlo.
It'll be a sad day if he goes.
Realistically, the only 2 strikers who are a patch on him are Henry & Eto'o. Although with Gallani being the cheap skate that he is, he'll probably plump for RvN. :(

From the official AC Milan website:
'I spoke to the president about the possibility of moving. Nothing has been decided yet, we are evaluating it over these days. Please don't create rumours that don't exist.' Andriy Shevchenko was holding nothing back, it's not his style. The striker has been at Milan for seven years and he made it clear he has no problems with the club and explained that he had to make the decision based on his family as well. Click below to read what Sheva had to say.

MILANELLO - Andriy Shevchenko had this to say at the press conference Milanello:

'It's useless to hide the facts. I was with the president and I we spoke about a lot of things. We also spoke about the possibility of changing teams. This is not a decision, we were only talking. I want to be clear, it does not regard my relationship with Milan. There is great affection for the club, the coach and my team-mates. The decision regards my family. I want to say to the fans that they have always been important for me. It is not even for the economic aspect, is absurd for me, it's almost hard work to speak about it. I have been at Milan for seven years, I have to decide well. I am not under pressure to make a decision, I am just talking in these days. There will be another press conference to clear everything up. I ask that rumours don't go around that don't exist, not to twist the facts, there are no problems with the club, the coach and team-mates, there never has been.'

I could leave, admits Sheva
Friday 12 May, 2006

Andriy Shevchenko has admitted that Sunday’s game against Roma could be his last in a Rossoneri shirt.

The Ukrainian made the shock announcement at a specially arranged media conference this evening after Silvio Berlusconi, the club’s owner, this morning suggested that the player wants to head to England.

Despite previously dismissing links with Chelsea, the former European Footballer of the Year is pondering a sensational and unexpected San Siro exit.

“It is useless to hide this matter any further,” the former Dynamo Kiev man told stunned journalists on Friday.

“I went to see the President [Berlusconi] where we talked about a lot of things, including the possibility of leaving.”

Although Shevchenko’s comments will inevitably lead to talk that he is on the verge of a Stamford Bridge switch, he underlined that anything could happen before the start of next season.

“No definite decision has been made,” he added. “I want people to be aware of the fact that we are only discussing the matter.”

Shevchenko did recently suggest that he wanted to become a Milanista like Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini. So why the change of stance?

“Nothing has broken in my relationship with Milan,” he wanted to underline. “There has always been great affection between us.

“That has been the case with my teammates and the Coach too. I am just considering making this decision for family reasons.

“I also want to tell the fans, who have been and always will be important for me, that this is not about money as that would be absurd.

“I’m finding it hard to talk,” he added. “Now I just have to evaluate things properly after spending seven years at this club.

“Nothing has been decided yet and we’ll see what happens over the next few days.”

The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona may also become interested in Shevchenko now that he is seemingly available for transfer.

If i was Shevi I would want to move, I dont think hes won anything at AC Milan.
1 x Serie A
1 x Champions League
1 x Euro Supercup
1 x Coppa Italia
1 x League Supercup

And won the Golden Ball in 2004.

I agree. Considering the team Milan have had over the past few years, I think they should have won a bit more than they have. It has still been an excellent spell, but they're likely to enter a rebuilding period now and may struggle in Europe against teams at their peak; especially without Shevchenko.

I hope I'm wrong :)

Whilst I think that Sheva is still the best striker in the world, I'm not sure if he'd be the best investment for Chelsea given his age. Maybe his teammate Gilardinho would be a better buy, or possibly Adriano or Torres. I wouldn't rule out Tevez or Martins either (although Corinthians have just refused a bid for Tevez).
