Shotguns: Show us your clay / game / zombie bashers

@GW1970 Nice, good targets? I don't own a semi-auto, in fact, never tried one so far!

Today I went shooting at AC Sportings, near West London Shooting school. Did pretty good. Dropped the last &"&*£*(" target (easy one!) on the first Compak, then I went to Skeet and did 2 moderate rounds (haven't shot skeet in yonks!) and I ALSO stupidly dropped the last pair on the the second (better) round.
Then I went to the 'hard' FITASC layout and I must say I'm quite happy as I averaged 20/25, and these are really though birds. It was also sweltering hot!

Not sure if anyone else shot the benelli semi auto comp last weekend but just wanted to say what a fantastic competition Southdown gun club put on with great targets and the weather made it a dream to get around.

I managed 106/120 which put me 6th in A class which is my best score for this competition and as it was my first shoot since Xmas it put a smile on my face.

Well shot - not shot the Benelli for a number of years - Last one being at West London - Lost third in Vet due to trap breakdown -- Last stand and three rabbit's - hit first 6 then no birds - 20 min later I went back on -had a look at them and missed all three for a 99 - There was another 99 but I shot in morning and went home so afternoon guy got it.

Has Southdown got the Benelli now for next two years - I understand it is shot for three years at one ground.

Buserror.

Nice shooting on compak - bet you kicked yourself all way home.

@DXP55 ah, well, it was a good day overrall, lots of things are coming together now, so I don't feel bad at all. A bit silly but hey, it's practice ;-)

Tomorrow I'm doing another serious shooting day. Well, I MIGHT take the pretty SxS for a spin too, in case I get bored ;-)

Well, there was a 85 will within reach if I didn't hash these grouse crossers. Bit disapointed with that, however I did recover and straighened the next stand. I'd never been able to do that last year!

Good shooting - it's all these 7x8's that throws your cards though isn't it

been to the Hodnet first Thursday of month 100 birder today - Stand 6 did me 3x10 - On the other 5 pair stand I was only one to straight it - was chuffed to bits -- put in my best score for a long time - nice round 80

here ya go.

@DXP55 sorry missed that post. Nice shooting indeed! There's always 'these' stand isn't it? Just have to keep on trucking :-)

Here I had another training at AC Sporting, the scores are definitely creeping up. Now a 'bad' score is 20, on the hardest FITASC. Definitive progress here

Was a bit bored this morning and thought I know - will go to local shooting ground (Mickly Hall) and do a few stands - Went on web site and they are holding the Eley Grand Prix over four days with today last day - So rang up and got a place and had a very good day out - made so much better because it was unexpected.

Was 120 bird over 12 stands with 4 traps per stand - 4 singles full use of gun- two on report pairs and one simo pair all made up from the four traps - made for some interesting targets - missed some easy ones and finished up on 92x120 - was so easy to throw a few away and they are the ones that counted.

Another bonus was the eye candy walking around with not a lot on holding dogs on a lead - It was stifling hot today.

I had looked to doing the shoot at mickly hall but recovering from kidney stone blasting from Monday this week and with a stent being left in has made carrying full shooting gear painful and with the beretta worlds just around the corner I need to rest up.

GW

I hope you are better for the Beretta :)- it's no fun lugging 130 odd cartridges around is it - Mickly hall was OK as it's flat - try that at Hodnet up heartbreak hill.:D

So, yesterday we went for our first simulated game day, at the Great Tew estate in oxfordshire -- organized by West London Shooting School. Weather wasn't fantastic, but we had a great time. Shot about 700 between the two of us! On the grouse simulation, I shot about 90 in the space of 10 minutes, my arms were falling off by the end of it!

Anyway, great time, nice food etc. Recommended. With the BASC discount, we paid £234 inc vat (it's a massive saving, as the day is normally £295 ex VAT!)

Don't forget to add on at least another £70 each for cartridges. No way I could shoot 350 in a day - I would be knackered.

Shame the weather had changed though.

ps Had a senior moment with my maths

Had a £95 bill from my doctors to send a report to the FAO for my SGC application. Should I pay it? Robbin sods.

Online shooting sites say no, what do you think?

I have had several applications/renewals for both FAC and SGC in different counties with different doctors and I have never been asked to pay!

Went to Shugborough (Oakedge) today for the first shoot set up by Steve Lovatt of Clay Shooting company (I think) - It was just like the old days - Started at 11,00 and finished at 2.30 - Not had such a long day shooting and queuing for years and have to say I am to old for it now. - Compared to the normal Shugborough targets these were in another world - Where my normal score would be around 75 +/- 5 birds - today was a unbelievable 62 - not that the targets were hard or out of range - just the fact we don't see targets like that very often so read them wrong. After saying all that there was two 95's in so someone read them correctly. - Did I enjoy it ------ Yes - over all. - Will I go again - at £35 bird only probably not.

One good thing out of today is I met loads of shooters I haven't seem for years and was a good social day out as well.

Thanks all, and I came to same conclusion to just ignore it. Ill see if the FAO makes an issue of it; hopefully it doesnt cause any issues.

On the upside, I had my brattonsound ss5+ installed last friday :)

I've been enjoying the late night shoots on a Thursday down at AGL recently. They've put in a 13th and 14th stand too which is pretty good.

I got a 35/50 last night which was good. I was let down with a 4/10 stand. The other four stands were a mix of 8s and 7s so on the whole my average is creeping up.

I also bought some 'Auritech Shoot' earplugs. They work really well, a bit awkward to get in the ear properly but once they're in, they're comfy, you can hear conversation (a little bit less than normal) and shotgun blasts are not an issue. I much prefer them to my electronic ear muffs mainly because I no longer need clunky headphones. It never bashes into my gun stock either!

Is that Atkin Grant and Lang - If so never heard of them before - looks a smart place but to far south for me these days.

Good that your shooting is improving -keep at it

I thought looking at your location it was in New Mexico

Yeah that's the ground, it's quite a nice woodland course and the chaps that run it are easy to get along with too. There's at least one other guy from here that occasionally shoots there... possible BusError although I may be making this up.

I think I set that as my location way back when I started watching Breaking Bad lol.
