. . . says a man who claims to suffer from it and yet appears to know nothing about it.

Stupid comment F.T.L. And FWIW, I don't suffer from it; that's just the PC language of victimhood. I simply have it. It causes me no suffering whatsoever.

Incidentally Evangelion sweetie, if you bother to check the facts you will discover that Gary McKinnon has never denied hacking into some 70 American Government systems, he just denies that it was malicious or that he caused damage costing $800,000.

So why didn't he accept the plea bargain? He was offered a plea bargain with 37-46 months in jail if he refused to contest the charges. He chose to reject this offer and contest the charges; consequently he is now facing 8-10 years instead. All of this is admitted by his own defence lawyer. The figure of 70 years imprisonment is just a big number bandied about by the tabloids and the members of the great unwashed public, for the purpose of drumming up sympathy for their favourite criminal.

On what basis do you believe he should he not be extradited to face prosecution for his crimes? Do you think he is above the law? Do you think the law does not apply? Are you pleading diminished responsibility? He obviously knows right from wrong; he has no difficulty in making moral judgements, so that's no defence. What's the excuse?

yes he should be extradited he broke internationals laws and should be sent to the US, if a US citizen did the same to the British goverment the US would extradite that person as well, the guy is sane and he knew what he was doing when he was hacking so he should face the Judge like a man and stop hiding behind an illness

"He has always insisted he was looking for classified documents on UFOs which he believed the US authorities had suppressed. "

really really really bad defence there Gary ^

Hacker's suck my dogs *****, when they steal card details from a shopping site and max out your master card you want them hung. When they are some socially inept nuggett who reads too much science fiction you want them let off. Its crime and time if he had not done it he would not serve it and his tree hugging lawyers, who as it happens probably do manage to get off some genuinely dangerous individuals and put them back on our streets have failed.

The whole situation is a complete joke, he has not harmed any one he is obviously not a dangerous individual, he has accepted that he hacked into Americas infrastructure and he has said that he is obviously not going to do it again. Jail is for dangerous people, he should be punished like having to pay for as much of the damage that he has done as he can. they could put him on trial in the US and have him serve his centince here in the UK if they really must jail him which is the humain thing to do for someone who has Asperger Syndrome.

The risks about mental illness are real if he has aspergers syndrome and he is seperated from those who know him. of course when does the US ever care about whats fair?. 73 years is laughable and people these days get less for murder which is a disgreace. its just about america going to extremes as usual.

Hmmm. Could you offer a job to someone that hasn't been caught, though? I think he'd get one just for lack of competition.

Its been said before that he used commonly available tools, so that puts him down as a script kiddy, and yeh Tefal's right too he used default pw's when needed.

I'm having trouble understanding how you can have some sort of condition yet experience none of the issues associated with it.

He said he doesn't "suffer" not that he doesn't have some of the issues.

Personaly I'm glad, he did a completely stupid thing, was given a "way out" with a short jail sentance and decided to try and fight it, even after admitting guilt.

Jeanson Ancheta got nearly 5 years for building a 400,000 strong botnet and selling resources for spamming and DDoS. He also infected US Defence systems with the malicious software he wrote..

If Gary gets a couple of years in the US then i'd say that was fair
