Show the lads your Silverstone cases

Well, I've taken the plunge and have just ordered a Fortress case along with a Lian-Li fan grille panel (to mount a 120mm in 3 x 5.25" bays) and a Sycthe Kaze Master + some other cable tidying bits'n'bobs - should be here tomorrow all being well.

I had pretty much settled on the Fortress as one of my shortlist and this thread helped confirm that choice, so thanks to you all!

I'll post up some pics etc as things progress.

Cheers
Si :)

Probably not selling the model with these pictures due to my camera being relegated to the free gift from a cereal box level of technology, and combined with poor lighting.

Sugo SG03 in silver.

As using an Enzotech Extreme-X passive CPU cooler you can see how the optical drive is raised at the rear. Because the DFI Junior P45 board CPU socket location compared to other boards.[/QUOTE]

Is that a round IDE cable I see? How do you find them? I've not heard good things elsewhere.

good choice that man

hope to see pics soon

It came with the motherboard, and is a bit too short to route nicely. You can buy rounded IDE cables from OcUK, etc.

Last decade I bought a metal braided IDE cable (has a transparent plastic covering) that is still going strong in an old system I sold to a friend. No idea of brand.

I know that you can get them from OcUK, i meant how do you find them as in do you like them :p

Rounded IDE looks nice, but the covering can hinder practicality - especially in this build where I was trying to route it away from the centre space. So a ribbon IDE cable would have been better.

Problem I've had with the rounded cable is stiffness at connections from the triangular tapered covering (see first picture post). Also the thickness of the cable length is too much for my motherboard stand offs.

Have re-routed cable so it's now lying flatter compared to second picture of first picture post. If I had a ribbon cable it would lye completely flat when going over edge of motherboard, and tight diagonal fold would allow for easy right angle turn to route under motherboard. The rounded cable is hindered by the covering not allowing for a more acute fold back on its self, and creasing of the covering resulting in raised bump.

I do like the additional covering for that extra protection from abrasion damage to the grey ribbon covering.

Well my new Fortress case arrived earlier and it's been quite a job transferring everything across and doing the cabling as neatly as I could. I even got some braid and heatwrap for the Scythe Kaze Master fan and temp probe leads...

Anyway, here is the old and the new side by side, the Fortress making my old Antec 300 look positively shabby! Love the finish on the new case and the attention to detail is simply stunning.

Some of the innards stripped out and ready for the new case

Mobo installed. Love my Noctua, just wish they'd do something about the colour scheme of those fans tho. I put the two Samsung F1's in the 5.25" bays to try to maximise airflow from the bottom front fan because the fan grille I got wouldn't fit in the top bays, so a bit disappointed (it was a Lian-Li and was ever so slightly too wide to go in without bending something!)

The speedy bits about to go in - simply the best upgrade I've done in a long while.

Spaghetti junction... I think the cable clips I've got might be just a touch too large for the job and am starting to wonder if the side will ever fit back on?

Nearly done now, just the fan controller to wire up and set the temp sensors in place.

And with the side back on (finally... it took some persuasion too!), it's finished! I'm chuffed to bits with it and think I've got a nice clean build.
No fancy pants led's tho, but at the mo my rig sits in a locked desk due to having small children so gonna be a while before the window side is really used for 'bling' purposes - atm just nice to be able to quickly check that I've wired up the fan controller correctly!

Anyway, that's me done. Going away for the weekend so see y'all Monday!
Have a good weekend all.

Thanks for the kind words guys:)

Temps with the Noctua are between 33-40 idle and I haven't had time to test load yet, but should be similar to my old rig which was about 60 max.

The Antec had 3 x 120mm intake fans and 2 exhausts, and the Fortress has currently got 2 intakes and 1 exhaust, but despite this the temps in the Fortress appear to be almost exactly the same as they were in the Antec, so that's a definite thumbs up for positive pressure so far!

I am still considering replacing the Lian-Li fan grille with a kama bay to add another intake fan into the 5.25" bays - I should be able to keep the HDD's in there and still get better airflow to CPU etc... It's worth a try anyway!

Is that not quite high considering you've got Q9550 to 3.4GHz. My Q6600 to 3.4GHz idle temp between 28-31 and full load with IBT 65c

Before you replace that give rjkoneil a shout. I am almost certain he squeezed the Lian-Li grille in there, with the aid of a few taps from a rubber mallet IIRC :p

Other than that though, nice looking build. Love the 3 SSD's
