Show the lads your Silverstone cases

Further to my earlier posting of my Fortress build I have now succeeded in fitting the Lian-Li fan grille into the 5.25" bays along with 2 HDD's...
Thanks to Diggsy for suggesting asking rjkoneill, and thanks to rjk for answering!

Anyway after purchasing a rubber hammer (now christened 'Mr Persuader') I set to with my dremel to grind down the shoulders of the grille outer case to help with the 'gentle easing it into the case' process. I also decided to cut away some of the inner and outer grille casing to allow me to retain the 2 HDD's mounted in the bays behind the fan as I really wanted to keep the airflow clean by leaving out the other 3.5" drive cage.

In this pic you can see the ground down edges and the cut away sides, along with Mr Persuader

A mock up of how the HDD will fit behind the modified grille housing (I wanted to keep cables at the fan end but had to decide against in the end)

After a bit of a talk with Mr Persuader... It fits! And the HDD's are in there too.

Cabling of the HDD's done as neatly as I could... it was gutting having to put cabling in view after all the effort to hide things away on the initial build.

Overall I don't think it came out too badly

The finished look... and Mr Persuader too!

A front view - I think the grille looks good and goes well with the original Silverstone mesh below.

And lastly to perfomance - well I've had a couple of degrees knocked off my CPU idle temps but a massive 10 degrees reduction in the GPU VDDC idle temps - I was gobsmacked at that one and very glad that I stuck with it after seeing that.

All in all a nice addition to the case. Now where did I leave that i7 bundle..?

Cheers All,
Si

Looking great Si. Black sata cables would just finish that off beautifully. And if you go for 90 degree ones for the HDDs that would be even better. :)

does look good si. Glad those SSD's fitted. It is a cracking case. So glad i got mine.

still waiting on my Xigmatek's  Company i've got them from have had a whole days delivery lost (apparently) by Royal Mail so having to wait until Xigmatek send some more (which are apparently in customs)

Thanks m8 - I did look at getting new SATA cables and I suspect I will eventually, but I think I'll leave the next rebuild until I take the i7 plunge!

Yeah I'm glad to get the SSD's in and tidied away - having to mount 5 x HDD's was quite a major factor in my search for the perfect case with the size restrictions I had using the desk, but I think it turned out well in the end - I'm chuffed to bits and that's good enough for me! Sorry to hear about your probs with getting the Xigmatek's - that's a bleedin nightmare having a whole days shipment lost... smells a bit fishy to me, but fingers crossed they'll not be much longer now!

the director even emailed me to explain the situation and the claim they're setting with RM. £977 lost in a day? hmmmmmm

I just think they sold out and banked on the new shipment coming in before they'd run out.

no one has them in stock it's quite frustrating.

I would get some Noctuas like yourself but my god they're ugly looking things :D

That they are, but nothing will touch them for performance/noise ratio

well i've taken the plunge (after checking out your build log again) and ordered me a Noctua NF-P12 to sit inside my Kama Bay.

I was worried i'd be able to see the horrid looking cream and red fans but i doubt i will.

Still waiting on my other fans before i post a final build pic

Wooo! Just ordered by Fortress this morning for delivery tomorrow, unfortunatly from a competitor (Sorry OCUK!). Will be getting the rest of the parts on the weekend, so look forward to a build log and a pic iun here soon enough :)

...and no doubt numerouse cries for help when I break something.

If you end up seeing it a little, just replace the filter mesh with some slightly denser stuff. I got some off the bay for a couple of quid and it made all the difference. Although I needed a larger size anyway after modding mine.

I doubt you'll see the fan behind the grille, but as Diggsy says some denser filter material should help - or add a layer of tights to the existing stuff!

tbh i don't think it will be seen inside the case. but the tights idea is good.

I was having a look inside the case last night whilst running prime just to guage how got or cool the inside got.
Upon opening the case the air which came out was pretty cool. Not as cool as i'd like but doing the job.

My TRUE was warm to touch but the cpu was hitting the late 70's.
Need my new xigmateks in there asap as the CFM on the Zalman is only late 30's which is poor and the Kama is 30.5 too. So the Noctua will pump a lot more air into the case and the xigmatek will the pump it through the TRUE.

just wish they'd hurry up and arrive
